Star Telecom joint venture continues to be a model of Laos-Vietnam economic cooperation

Visiting and working with Star Telecom (Unitel), President To Lam said that Star Telecom needs to pioneer in participating in the digital transformation in Laos.

Within the framework of the State visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic, on the afternoon of July 11, President To Lam and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation visited and worked with Star Telecom (Unitel) - a joint venture of the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) in Laos.

Also attending were General Chansamone Chanyalath, member of the Politburo of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense of Laos and a number of Lao leaders.

Reporting to the President on the situation of operations in the area, General Director Tran Trung Hung said that after nearly 15 years of official production and business, Star Telecom has now become a leading telecommunications and digital service company, having a profound influence on all aspects of the economy and social life in Laos as well as building great prestige with the Party, State and people of Laos.

Unitel has become the largest telecommunications network, covering the whole country, and is a pioneer in digital transformation.

With a market share of 57%, Unitel is the enterprise that contributes the most budget to Laos, of which it contributes an average of over 60 million USD to the Lao State budget each year, creating the most jobs with over 27,000 workers. Unitel also actively supports the Lao Government in digital transformation and building e-Government.

Speaking at the meeting, highly appreciating the efforts and production and business results of the Star Telecom joint venture, President To Lam pointed out that Star Telecom has popularized services throughout Laos, modern telecommunications services have reached the most remote areas, erasing the gap between urban and rural areas; helping people in remote areas to access telecommunications services like in big cities, contributing significantly to the socio-economic development of the brotherly country of Laos continuously over the past 15 years.

Along with that, Star Telecom is also a leading enterprise in the field of providing information technology and digital financial solutions for the government and people in Laos, greatly supporting the Lao Government in accelerating the national digital transformation process, building e-government and creating convenience for people in financial and payment activities, just like Viettel Group has been doing in Vietnam.

Based on these positive results, the President requested the company to continue to maintain the spirit of solidarity and unity among its staff, both Lao and Vietnamese, and to take good care of their lives to promote human resources, creating a premise for sustainable growth and development; at the same time, business activities must be closely combined with economic diplomacy and defense diplomacy.

The President said that Star Telecom needs to pioneer in participating in the digital transformation in Laos; actively participate in providing digital transformation products, information technology products for the National Assembly, Government, and ministries in Laos, contributing to promoting and effectively implementing the digital transformation strategy of the neighboring country.

In addition, the President also asked the company to continue implementing social security programs, contributing to the community, and spreading intrinsic cultural values ​​to businesses in Laos, especially Vietnamese businesses in Laos.

The President also emphasized the requirement to uphold the law and gain the Party's trust, strictly comply with the regulations of the place where one invests and the regulations of the State and Government of Vietnam, and compete fairly and lawfully; do business with kindness and true respect for customers.

The President expressed his hope that with the continuous efforts of the company's leadership and all staff, the Star Telecom joint venture will continue to be a symbol and model of economic cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.
