Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee has just proposed building Cat Lai Bridge to replace the existing ferry to create an inter-regional traffic connection route between Dong Nai province and Ho Chi Minh City.

Specifically, Dong Nai proposed that the starting point of the Cat Lai bridge construction project be located on Nguyen Thi Dinh Street, about 400m from My Thuy intersection.

At the end of the project, it connects to Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway at about Km33+500 (Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway route).

The total length of the road and bridge is more than 11km. The scale of the main urban road, design speed 80km/h, the bridge cross-section has 6 motor lanes and 2 mixed lanes.

The project is divided into 4 component projects including two land clearance projects (HCMC and Dong Nai sides) along with the Cat Lai bridge construction project, and the road construction project connecting from after the Cat Lai bridge toll station to the end of the route.

Regarding capital, Dong Nai proposed a public investment plan for the entire site clearance of the project and the construction of the connecting road from after the Cat Lai bridge toll station (about Km6+300) to the end of the route of over 10,000 billion VND.

Investment in the form of PPP, BOT contract for the project (range from the beginning of the route to after the Cat Lai bridge toll station is over 9,000 billion VND, including budget capital (accounting for 49%) and capital mobilized by investors (accounting for 51%).

Previously, the investor and consultant had studied two options including the Cat Lai bridge construction option and the tunnel construction option.

Through comparison, the consulting unit recommended choosing the Cat Lai bridge construction option because tunnel construction would be difficult to ensure the project's financial plan, and the maintenance and operation costs would be very high (the bridge construction option would only be about 10% compared to the tunnel construction option).

Hand over Dong Nai to do Cat Lai bridge project

According to the road network planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the approximately 40km river section bordering Dong Nai province and Ho Chi Minh City (from Dong Nai bridge to Phuoc Khanh bridge) has 5 bridges. These are Dong Nai bridge, Long Thanh bridge, Nhon Trach bridge, Cat Lai bridge, Phuoc Khanh bridge.

Of which, Dong Nai bridge on National Highway 1 and Long Thanh bridge on Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway have been completed.

The two Nhon Trach bridges of Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 3 and Phuoc Khanh bridge of the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway have also been basically completed.

Regarding Cat Lai bridge, in 2019, the Prime Minister assigned Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee as the competent state agency to implement the project.
