According to THX, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health has announced that the cholera outbreak in the country has ended, with no new cases recorded since the end of February.
Lebanon's national news agency quoted the ministry as saying that the most recent cholera case was reported more than 12 weeks ago. The ministry will continue to monitor the cholera situation through active surveillance and will also intensify public awareness campaigns about the disease.
During the cholera outbreak that began on October 6, 2022, Lebanon recorded a total of 617 cases. In November 2022, the United Nations International Coordinating Group on Vaccine Supply provided Lebanon with more than 600,000 doses of cholera vaccine. These vaccines were distributed to migrants and local communities in hotspots and areas affected by the outbreak, meeting approximately 90% of the vaccination needs.
