On the morning of May 16, at Dong Tam International Martyrs Cemetery (Ba Thuoc), the Party Committee, government, armed forces and people of Thanh Hoa province solemnly held a memorial service and buried the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed their lives in the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and have just been gathered back to their sacred motherland.

Attending the ceremony were comrades: Lai The Nguyen, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Major General Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Commander of Military Region 4; Nguyen Quang Hai, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; representatives of the Government's Special Working Group, the Special Working Group of Hua Phan province, Lao People's Democratic Republic, representatives of the leaders of Ba Thuoc, Quan Son, Quan Hoa, Lang Chanh, Cam Thuy districts and a large number of people.

In recent years, with the attention and leadership of the Special Working Committee of the two Governments of Vietnam - Laos, Steering Committee 515 of Military Region 4 and the Special Working Committee of the two provinces of Thanh Hoa and Hua Phan, the work of searching for and collecting the remains of martyrs who died in Laos has been effectively implemented.

In the dry season of 2023-2024, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Collection Team proactively overcame all difficulties, closely coordinated with all levels, sectors, and localities of Hua Phan province, Lao People's Democratic Republic to search for and recover the remains of 15 martyrs, volunteer soldiers, and Vietnamese experts who died in Laos and returned them to their homeland.

Speaking at the ceremony, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Lai The Nguyen emphasized: During the resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism, promoting the tradition of solidarity and friendship, the people of Vietnam and Laos always sympathized and closely united with each other in the mission of fighting against the common enemy to gain independence and freedom for the Fatherland. Tens of thousands of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts left behind their families, relatives and homeland, shouldered their guns and backpacks and marched across the Truong Son mountain range to Laos to fulfill their international duty, joining the Lao army and people in the fight against the invaders, contributing to the glorious victory of the two countries' resistance war.

Among them, many sons of the Vietnamese people and Thanh Hoa homeland heroically sacrificed in Laos. Their great dedication and sacrifice are shining symbols of revolutionary heroism, demonstrating the burning desire for independence, freedom and happiness for the two peoples of Vietnam and Laos, contributing to further enhancing the special solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

Since the restoration of peace, Vietnam and Laos have identified the search, collection, exhumation and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts as one of the important tasks, demonstrating the tradition and morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" and "Repaying gratitude" of the two nations. At the same time, it is also the responsibility and deep affection of today's generation towards the outstanding children of the Vietnamese people who devoted their most beautiful youth to the independence and freedom of Vietnam and Laos.

According to Mr. Lai The Nguyen, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, over the past 26 years since 1998, implementing the direction of the Government's Special Task Force, the National Steering Committee 515, the Party Committee of the Military Region 4 Command; especially with the support and assistance of the Party Committee, the government, the armed forces and the people of Hua Phan province, Thanh Hoa province has searched for, collected, exhumed and repatriated thousands of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts to the motherland. During the 2023-2024 dry season in Laos, the Thanh Hoa Province Martyrs' Grave Collection Team overcame countless difficulties and hardships, crossing forests and wading streams to reach areas in Laos. Before the heroic martyrs, we vow to promote the revolutionary tradition, unite to continue to successfully carry out the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country. Building and protecting the Fatherland of Vietnam, with the goal of "Rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness, civilization".

In front of the heroic martyrs, at this solemn ceremony, on behalf of the leaders of Thanh Hoa province, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Lai The Nguyen sincerely thanked the Party Committee, government and people of Hua Phan province, Lao People's Democratic Republic for their wholehearted support and creating favorable conditions for Thanh Hoa province to complete this noble task. He praised and highly appreciated the provincial Martyrs' Grave Collection Team for searching day and night for beloved comrades, collecting and bringing the remains of martyrs back to the Fatherland over long distances.
