Le Tan Phuoc - the charming storyteller

In short, laughter or smiles are "exclusive" to humans, but ironically, we cannot laugh by ourselves. To laugh, we need to go see a comedy, or at least need someone to tell jokes, or hold a book of jokes in our hands.

If you look at someone and suddenly start smiling to yourself, there are two possibilities: that person is remembering something funny, or he has a "short circuit".

In short, laughter is a conditioned behavior. And because a smile is worth ten tonics, everyone seeks laughter.

Teacher Le Tan Phuoc is not only a person who seeks laughter, he is also a person who "hunts" for jokes, then remakes (reconstitutes/creates more) them into classic jokes.

Every time I read Le Tan Phuoc's jokes, I don't know why, but I suddenly think of an old writer that I love in the field of telling jokes. He often tells jokes during tea and wine breaks, in his calm voice, but makes everyone laugh... "fall off their chairs". Notably, this old writer does not use the internet. He often reads jokes in books and newspapers, told by others, or makes up his own. He just tells and makes up at the same time. He has a whole store of jokes in his belly, never exhausted.

I think one of the ways to remember a lot of jokes is to tell them often. Each time you tell a joke, you remember it. Each time you tell a joke, you create it.

Here, teacher Le Tan Phuoc combines two operations, both traditional and modern, compiling jokes from daily life, folklore, books and newspapers; and collecting them from the internet. Thanks to that, he wrote more than 500 jokes, a record number.

Anyone can remember a few jokes, and anyone can be a joke teller. But whether or not the story makes people laugh is another matter. The same story, but some people tell it and no one laughs, while others bring hearty laughter. It all comes down to storytelling skills.

I think Le Tan Phuoc is a talented joke teller. A charming joke teller.

Short, layered, accented… then suddenly bursts out laughing. Like the snap of a tightly compressed spring. Or the American laugh. Unexpected. Turning the car 180 degrees. Sometimes you sit and think for a while before bursting out laughing.

Some make me laugh right away. Some make me wake up in the middle of the night and laugh alone after reading them.

Telling more than 500 jokes by himself is truly impressive. Only those who love laughter and work can do it.

Teacher Le Tan Phuoc named his book 555 stories to relieve sadness (A miracle drug for people with depression) . That is, laughter is both a source of entertainment and a medicine. Especially in today's modern society, depression seems to spare no one. To reduce depression, there is nothing better than living in mindfulness and kindness and finding laughter to relieve the poison. Thich Phap Hoa - a Buddhist preacher loved by many people, also thanks to his talent for telling jokes, inserting a little laughter to lighten the steps of mortal beings in human life.

I was fortunate to work as an editor with teacher Le Tan Phuoc on the book project Punctuation and Symbols in English (Writers Association Publishing House, 2022). He is a very serious person at work, but also very gentle and humorous.

Originally an English teacher, after many years living in the US, Mr. Le Tan Phuoc spent his precious last days writing books and doing charity work.

All of his books, in addition to a limited number of copies for readers, he donates the rest to charitable organizations. He also donates the money from book sales to places in need. A wonderful way to give.

With this book 555 stories to relieve boredom , he also donated all the proceeds from the book sales to charity. That means, he is spreading joy and bringing laughter to everyone.

We would like to sincerely thank the heart of teacher Le Tan Phuoc and respectfully introduce it to readers.
