Bong Dien Traditional Festival receives Certificate of National Intangible Cultural Heritage recognition

On the evening of April 20, Tan Lap commune (Vu Thu) held a ceremony to receive the Certificate of National Intangible Cultural Heritage recognition and open the traditional Bong Dien festival in 2024.

Leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded the Certificate of recognition of the traditional Bong Dien festival as a national intangible cultural heritage to representatives of the Party Committee, government and people of Tan Lap commune.

The Bong Dien communal house and temple relic site was built during the Later Le Dynasty. The communal house is a place to worship two generals who helped King Hung fight the enemy to protect the country. The temple is a place to worship Princess Que Hoa, one of the talented generals under the Hai Ba Trung Dynasty. To commemorate the merits of their ancestors, the villagers built the Bong Dien communal house and temple to worship and it was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic in 1989.

Every year, the traditional Bong Dien festival takes place from the 13th to the 15th of the third lunar month with many traditional and unique rituals such as: the sacred water procession on the Red River to the communal house and temple; the Ha Ba worship ceremony on the river; the incense bowl welcoming ceremony; the palanquin procession to the tomb of the female general Que Hoa in Huong Dien village, Viet Hung commune (Vu Thu) and many other cultural, artistic and folk games activities.

At the ceremony, Tan Lap commune announced the decision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to include the Bong Dien traditional festival in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage. The leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism presented the Certificate of recognition of the Bong Dien traditional festival as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage to representatives of the Party Committee, government and people of Tan Lap commune.
