The Kate Festival 2023 at Po Sah Inu Tower organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is an event in the series of activities of the National Tourism Year 2023 "Binh Thuan - Green Convergence" and to celebrate the 28th anniversary of Binh Thuan Tourism Day (October 24, 1995 - October 24, 2023).
This is a festival of the Cham people who follow Brahmanism, which has existed for a long time in history and is maintained to this day.
The festival reflects unique folk cultural values, customs, beliefs, religions, and arts associated with the activities and life of the community.
The Kate Festival expresses respect and gratitude to the gods, grandparents and ancestors. At the same time, it expresses the community's desire to always pray for favorable weather and bountiful crops.
Mr. Vo Thanh Huy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: Kate Festival is a unique and typical traditional festival associated with the social customs and beliefs of the Cham people, but also contributes to promoting and introducing the image, values and unique cultural features of the Cham people to tourists, serving the development of tourism in the province.
"With its unique and typical historical and cultural values and significance, the Kate festival of the Cham people in Binh Thuan province has been honored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2022," said Mr. Huy.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, the procession of the Goddess Po Sah Inư's costume took place to the main tower (tower A) and the main rituals were performed by Cham religious dignitaries.
Along with the rituals, at the Po Sah Inư tower relic site, there is also a folk contest "Blindfolded pot smashing", performances of traditional Cham musical instruments, performances of pottery making, brocade weaving, gingerbread making...
