The first spot belongs to Nguyen Thuy Linh, confirmed 2 weeks ago. Le Duc Phat - men's singles - is the next and latest name of Vietnamese sports to have a spot at the Olympics.
Specifically, Le Duc Phat ranked 74th in the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifying rankings. However, many players ranked above Le Duc Phat were not allowed to participate in the Olympics (sports delegations are limited in the number of places to participate in each event). Eliminating ineligible opponents, Vietnamese athletes ranked 35th.
Not out of the woods yet
Vietnamese sports still have a chance to complete the target of 12-15 official spots at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The wrestling, judo, boxing, athletics, gymnastics and archery teams are the last hope.
