Consulting on the draft Law on Election of National Assembly Deputies and People's Council Deputies (amended)

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Vice Chairwoman of the Delegation Affairs Committee Ta Thi Yen emphasized that the draft Law on Election of National Assembly Deputies and People's Council Deputies (amended) has important significance in regulating the right to vote and run for election, which is one of the basic political rights of citizens as stipulated in the Constitution. The content of this amendment is mainly related to the rearrangement of the organizational apparatus.

"Amending the Law must ensure adherence to the Party's orientation, legal principles, consistency and unity in the legal system, closely follow and institutionalize the contents according to the provisions of the amended and supplemented Constitution and ensure strictness, publicity and democracy. Therefore, it is necessary to consult widely with relevant agencies and organizations to ensure consensus, thereby choosing appropriate and feasible policy options," the Deputy Head of the Delegation Work Committee emphasized.

Delegates give opinions

Providing information on some basic contents of the draft Law, Vice Chairwoman of the Delegation Work Committee Ta Thi Yen said that the draft Law is expected to amend 27 articles related to the content of not organizing at the district level; amend 22 articles related to regulations to shorten the time to implement the election process and procedures. In addition, it is proposed to reduce the time to announce the election results and the list of winners.

Along with that, the draft Law combines amendments and supplements to 6 articles and clauses related to the election of National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies at all levels, which, through summarizing practical activities in the two recent elections, have encountered difficulties and shortcomings, and 2 articles and clauses are amended to ensure consistency and suitability with reality.

Delegates attending the conference

The Delegation Affairs Committee also proposed the name of the draft Law as “Law on Election of Deputies to the National Assembly and People’s Councils (amended)”. The draft Law is expected to be submitted to the National Assembly for comments and approval at the 9th Session of the 15th National Assembly to ensure completion before June 30, 2025 as concluded by the Politburo and the Secretariat.

At the workshop, delegates basically agreed on the content of the draft Law. At the same time, they actively participated, contributed their enthusiastic and responsible opinions to help complete the draft Law to ensure consistency and suitability with reality. Based on the opinions of the delegates, the drafting agency will absorb and complete the draft Law.
