Lao Cai: Consumer price index in March and the first quarter of 2025 both increased

According to the Lao Cai Provincial Statistics Office, the consumer price index in March 2025 decreased by 0.17% compared to the previous month, but still increased by 1.15% compared to December 2024 and increased by 1.76% compared to the same month in 2024.

Of the 11 main consumer goods and services groups in March, 5 groups kept stable prices, 3 groups increased prices and 3 groups decreased compared to the previous month.

Groups with stable indexes: Clothing, hats and footwear; medicine and medical services; post and telecommunications; education; culture, entertainment and tourism.

Groups with increasing indexes: Beverages and tobacco increased by 0.75%; household equipment and appliances increased by 0.06%; other goods and services increased by 0.03%.

Groups with decreasing indexes: Food and catering services decreased by 0.17%; housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials decreased by 0.29%; transportation decreased by 1.06%.

The average consumer price index in the first quarter of 2025 increased by 1.94% over the same period last year.

The main factors that increased the CPI in the first quarter of 2025 were: Food and catering services increased by 6.16%, beverages and tobacco increased by 4.82% due to increased consumer demand; medicine and medical services increased by 5.56% due to increased medical service prices according to the new Circular of the Ministry of Health; other goods and services increased by 4.57%, mainly due to increased prices of jewelry and personal care services...
