(HTV) - Towards the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country, the Ho Chi Minh City Veterans Association organized a meeting and exchange with generations of veterans, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, and historical witnesses who participated in the resistance war against the US.
The gathering took place in an atmosphere of joy, pride, and deep emotion. It was an opportunity for older generations to reminisce about the glorious memories of the Great Victory of Spring 1975 and the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, a brilliant milestone marking the complete victory of the nation after many years of protracted resistance.

Attending and sharing at the exchange was Comrade Nguyen Thanh Nghi - Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee. The presence of the city's leaders demonstrates the deep concern, respect, and gratitude of the Party Committee, government, and people of Ho Chi Minh City for the great contributions and sacrifices of the veterans, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, and historical witnesses.

Half a century has passed since the reunification of the country, but the memories of those arduous yet heroic years of struggle remain vivid in the minds of many. Hero of the People's Armed Forces - Colonel Nguyen Van Tau, the legendary intelligence agent with the alias Tu Cang, couldn't help but feel emotional as he recalled his battles alongside his comrades and the poignant moments of national victory. He and other veterans shared stories of unwavering camaraderie and paid tribute to the heroes who fell for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

Speaking at the meeting, Major Nguyen Dinh Truong of the Vietnam Veterans Association emphasized that the country's steady development over the past 50 years is a powerful testament to Vietnam's strength and wisdom. This achievement is thanks to the tireless contributions of generations of Vietnamese people, including the crucial role of veterans – those who, after leaving the military, continue to dedicate their strength and intellect to the building and protection of their homeland.

On this significant occasion, the Ho Chi Minh City Veterans Association also solemnly organized a ceremony to honor outstanding veterans. These are shining examples of continuing to uphold the noble qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in peacetime, always striving, training, and making positive contributions to the development of the community, earning the trust, respect, and admiration of the local Party committee, government, and people.
The gathering was not only an opportunity to reminisce about the glorious past but also to reaffirm the principle of "drinking water, remembering the source," further motivating today's generation to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors, building Ho Chi Minh City and the country into an increasingly prosperous, beautiful, and civilized place.
