The new Indonesian President is on an official visit to China starting on November 8. This is Mr. Prabowo Subianto's first foreign trip to raise Jakarta's position in the international arena.
The official welcoming ceremony for Mr. Prabowo Subianto took place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, where the above bilateral talks were held.
Despite being important economic partners, the two countries have disagreements over sovereignty claims in the South China Sea. Beijing expressed hope that this visit will take bilateral relations to "new heights".
During his visit to China, which will last until November 10, Mr. Prabowo will also meet with Prime Minister Li Qiang and Mr. Zhao Leji, the number 3 figure in the Chinese leadership.
Mr. Prabowo will then travel to Washington at the invitation of US President Joe Biden, as part of a tour that will also take him to Peru, Brazil and the UK.
Mr. Prabowo Subianto was sworn in as President of Indonesia on October 20, succeeding Mr. Joko Widodo.
President Subianto won the election in March, defeating rivals Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo. His deputy is Gibran Rakabuming Raka, 37, the eldest son of former President Widodo.
"I promise to fulfill my duties as President of Indonesia as best and as fairly as possible, protect the constitution, and enforce laws and regulations as strictly as possible," new President Prabowo Subianto read the oath during his inauguration ceremony at the parliament building in the capital Jakarta on the morning of October 20.
