On the occasion of welcoming the New Year of the Dragon 2024, on the evening of January 31, the City Party Committee, People's Committee, People's Council, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City held a meeting with Consuls General, Heads of Representatives of International Organizations, Economic - Cultural Offices, and Business Associations of countries and territories in the City.
On behalf of the City's leaders, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the City People's Council, informed about the encouraging economic achievements that the City achieved in 2023 such as GRDP growth reaching 5.81%, FDI attraction reaching 5.9 billion USD (up nearly 50%), disbursement of public investment capital increased by more than 80% compared to the previous year...
The City highly appreciates and sincerely thanks the efforts of foreign representative agencies in the area in their role as "bridges" and representatives to promote relations between Ho Chi Minh City and countries, territories, and international organizations, contributing to the overall development of the City.
Sharing the development orientation of the City according to Resolution No. 31-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the direction and tasks of developing Ho Chi Minh City to 2030, with a vision to 2045, Resolution 98/2023/QH15 of the National Assembly on piloting a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of the City, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le said that in the development process, in addition to internal resources, the City really needs and wants consular agencies, international organizations, economic - cultural offices, foreign business associations to continue to accompany the City, especially in the effort to build the City into a smart city, an economic, financial, commercial, scientific - technological and cultural center of the region.
At the same time, agencies and organizations shared valuable experiences, candid opinions, and sincere suggestions on various fields for the City to study and propose appropriate development directions.
The city hopes that consular agencies, international organizations, economic and cultural offices, and foreign business associations will play an active role as a bridge, helping to promote the image of Ho Chi Minh City to international friends; connecting and bringing reliable, potential, and good-willed partners to the city.
The city pledges to continue to closely coordinate and support representative agencies in organizing economic, cultural, medical and educational exchange activities, contributing to mutual understanding and creating stronger relationships towards mutually beneficial development.
“We believe that, with the determination of the City and your enthusiastic cooperation, the solidarity and exchange between countries, territories and international organizations, Ho Chi Minh City will develop to be worthy of being “a major center of economy, culture, education - training, science - technology” of the whole country, a friendly destination for international friends, a locality with many conditions and potentials for businesses, investors and the foreign community to live and work stably and long-term” - Ms. Nguyen Thi Le emphasized.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Roy Kho Ngee Seng, Consul General of Singapore in Ho Chi Minh City, Head of the Consular Delegation in the City, highly appreciated and congratulated the important economic achievements the City achieved in 2023 as well as the vibrant foreign affairs activities in the City in the past year, affirming the important role of the City in the country's foreign affairs activities.
The representative of the Consular Corps expressed his belief that the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City will continue to connect and call for the participation of the Consular Corps and the business community through dialogues to improve the investment environment and disseminate timely information on new policies.
The Consular Delegation wishes to continue to cooperate closely with Ho Chi Minh City to achieve even greater achievements; at the same time, reaffirms its commitment to support in further strengthening and expanding bilateral relations as well as multilateral cooperation between the parties in 2024 and the following years.
