Ho Chi Minh City leaders meet with retired senior military officials

(NLDO) - Ho Chi Minh City leaders hope that retired generals and senior military officers will contribute more of their experiences to the city's development.

On the afternoon of December 18, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Fatherland Front Committee held a meeting with retired senior military officials to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024); 35 years of National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024) and posthumously award the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to martyr Le Thi Bach Cat.

Promoting the noble qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers"

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai said that after 80 years of fighting, building and growing, facing many harsh challenges, especially before the turning points of the revolution, the Vietnam People's Army has always shown the mettle of a revolutionary army, born from the people, fighting for the people.

Along with the process of building, fighting and growing of the Vietnam People's Army, the Ho Chi Minh City armed forces have continuously grown, achieved many feats, and beautified the revolutionary tradition of the homeland and nation.

"The 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day is an opportunity for us to review the heroic history of the nation, review the nature and fine traditions, the glorious feats of arms of our army and people, thereby enhancing patriotism, raising the sense of self-reliance, striving to build a strong national defense, constantly building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and gradually modern Vietnam People's Army, meeting the requirements of tasks in the new period" - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee emphasized.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that in recent times, the city has always received enthusiastic, responsible, and comprehensive contributions in all fields from retired generals and senior military officers, especially valuable experiences in Party building, building a national defense, a solid defense zone, and a strong city armed force.

In the coming time, the city hopes that retired generals and senior military officers will contribute more of their experiences to the city's development. Continue to maintain and promote the tradition and noble qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", always be steadfast in politics and ideology; be shining examples, be those who pass on the flame of revolutionary enthusiasm to the younger generation to learn, follow, dedicate themselves, and contribute to building and defending the Fatherland.

Unanimity and consensus in implementing organizational arrangement

Reviewing the positive economic - cultural - social results of Ho Chi Minh City in 2024, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that entering 2025, the year of many events celebrating major national holidays, the year of organizing Party congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Congress of the Party, Ho Chi Minh City continues to demonstrate its role as a driving force for national economic growth, while also facing many challenges due to the complex and unpredictable impacts of the world and regional situation.

The city continues to focus on thoroughly resolving limitations, obstacles, and backlogs, while also responding to new difficulties and challenges.

In that context, Ho Chi Minh City proposed the theme for 2025 as: "Focusing on streamlining the organization to be streamlined - strong - effective - efficient - effective; promoting digital transformation; implementing Resolution 98 of the National Assembly; fundamentally resolving the city's difficulties and backlogs".

Along with that, 22 main socio-economic targets were set, in which the target of gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth was over 10%. "This is a high target, requiring the entire political system and the people of the city to make great efforts and be more determined to achieve it" - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that in order to complete the targets in 2025, it requires the Party committees, authorities, people, and the entire political system of the city, including officers and soldiers of the armed forces, to further promote the traditions of the heroic army and heroic homeland, and focus on implementing a number of key tasks.

It is expected that on December 20, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee will hear the plan to reorganize the city's apparatus, to be implemented soon in the near future.

One of the key tasks is to build an effective and efficient city civil service; focus on arranging the political system apparatus according to the direction of the Central Government.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that this is an especially important task, requiring a very high level of unity in awareness, consensus, and strict compliance of leaders, managers, party members, civil servants, and public employees in the political system; the process of adjusting and arranging each individual will be more or less affected, but we must carry it out in the spirit of the common good.

"The Standing Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has strictly followed and urgently implemented this policy of the Central Government. It is expected that on December 20, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee will listen to the plan to reorganize the city's apparatus, to soon implement it in the near future" - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee informed.

Posthumously awarding the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to martyr Le Thi Bach Cat

Within the framework of the meeting, a ceremony was held to posthumously award the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to martyr Le Thi Bach Cat, former member of the District Party Committee, former Secretary of the District Youth Union, former Secretary of the Propaganda and Armed Forces Party Cell of Districts 2-4 (now District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai acknowledged that the posthumous award of the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to martyr Le Thi Bach Cat demonstrates the attention and recognition of the Party, State and people for the great sacrifice and dedication of martyr Le Thi Bach Cat as well as previous generations who fought without sparing their blood and bones for the cause of national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee sent his sincere feelings, thanks and deepest gratitude to the family of martyr Le Thi Bach Cat.

Martyr Le Thi Bach Cat (born October 10, 1940) was born in the revolutionary tradition-rich countryside of Nghe An. As a teacher and lecturer, facing the loss of her country and her family, she wrote a "blood letter" asking to go to the South to fight, participating in the Southwest Ben Cat, Da Lat, and Saigon war zones; organizing propaganda, mobilizing people and intellectuals to fight against the US.

In 1967, as a District Party Committee member, District Youth Union Secretary, and Secretary of the Armed Propaganda Cell of Districts 2-4, she mobilized the people to rise up and organized the raising of the liberation flag in Saigon. During the second phase of the Tet Offensive and Uprising in 1968, she commanded the platoon to fight steadfastly and sacrificed heroically to preserve the force.
