Phu Hoi Agarwood Village, with a tradition spanning over 100 years, has been preparing for Tet (Lunar New Year) for nearly two months now. The artisans there are focusing on creating unique agarwood products to meet Tet demand.
During this occasion, items such as decorative agarwood ornaments, agarwood bracelets, stickless incense, incense cones, agarwood essential oil, and bead necklaces are popular with customers not only for their cultural value but also for their aesthetic appeal, making them very suitable as gifts.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dung, a long-time artisan in Phu Hoi 1 village, shared that for more than two months, he and his fellow craftsmen have been working on producing large agarwood sculptures, nearly 2 meters tall.
These are high-value products, potentially worth hundreds of millions of dong. Although they require a lot of effort to produce and few people buy them, they are still popular during Tet (Lunar New Year) due to their unique nature.
Besides decorative agarwood products, items such as raw agarwood and agarwood incense are produced at maximum capacity to meet Tet holiday demand.
With over 20 years of experience, Mr. Duong Ngoc Thai said that his family's production has started to flourish since the middle of this year, and they are ready to supply high-quality agarwood products for Tet (Lunar New Year).
Phu Hoi 1 Agarwood Village currently has over 300 households and agarwood production facilities. The tenth lunar month each year is the peak season for agarwood production to meet Tet (Lunar New Year) demand. Many facilities have already started receiving orders from customers not only within the province but also from Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang .
Agarwood products are popular, especially incense sticks, with prices ranging from 150,000 VND/kg to 2.5 million VND/kg. The most popular type of incense costs 450,000 VND/kg. Products such as bracelets and necklaces are also in high demand, with prices ranging from several hundred thousand to tens of millions of VND.
Mr. Tran Cong Duc, director of Van Thang Agarwood Cooperative, said that in recent years, the craft village has invested in modern machinery, producing sophisticated and high-value products, especially agarwood handicrafts.
Mr. Duc also emphasized that local people have focused on brand building, no longer just processing for other brands, but have registered their own trademarks, thereby spreading the value of Khanh Hoa agarwood.
The village has potential for community-based tourism development.
The Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism has recently recognized the agarwood carving village in Van Thang commune as a potential location for community tourism development.
Mr. Huynh Van Hoa, chairman of the People's Committee of Van Thang commune, said that the commune has cooperated with national enterprises to expand the product value chain both domestically and internationally. At the same time, the commune is utilizing natural resources to develop sustainable community tourism.
