Forces are important for content development
At the conference, journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan, Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper, said that as of May 31, the newspaper had 443 employees working under official contracts and nearly 100 teams of collaborators nationwide. Of which, the permanent reporter force (in addition to the two main editorial offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi) was 36 people, accounting for 28.3% of the reporters nationwide and 8.1% of the total staff of the entire agency.
Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper Nguyen Ngoc Toan
According to Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Ngoc Toan, resident reporter, representative offices can be considered as "extended arms" of the editorial office in localities, bringing many positive results to the newspaper's general activities in all aspects of work, from content, journalism economics to social charity and behind-the-scenes events. The presence of resident reporters not only establishes the position, image and brand of the newspaper, but also contributes to supporting localities in promoting their image, propagating policies and guidelines through updating information quickly, promptly and comprehensively about the socio-economic "picture" and all aspects of life in localities.
Mr. Tran Thanh Lam, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, spoke at the conference.
Journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan affirmed that over the years, the Editorial Board of Thanh Nien Newspaper has always paid attention to and taken care of training and fostering to build a team of resident reporters who are skilled in their profession, can work on multiple media and platforms, have strong political will, good ethics, and ensure the style and standards of journalists.
Despite many achievements, the activities of the resident reporter team still face some difficulties and limitations. Typically, the force cannot cover all provinces and cities across the country; many reporters are assigned to be in charge of 2-3 provinces and cities; most resident reporters do not have offices in their areas of responsibility; some negative and sensitive information is still difficult to access due to the fear of contact and avoidance of the press by local authorities... Based on the above practices, Thanh Nien Newspaper organized a conference of resident reporters to identify, analyze, and propose long-term and sustainable solutions. This is an opportunity for Thanh Nien Newspaper to receive instructions, orientations, and share about propaganda work, professional ethics, and legal regulations related to journalists.
"We look forward to hearing sincere opinions and suggestions from local leaders - where Thanh Nien Newspaper's resident reporters are located, so that the resident reporters can look at themselves more clearly and together create a healthy journalism environment," journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan expressed.
Do not make mistakes or violate journalistic ethics.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Tran Thanh Lam, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, acknowledged that Thanh Nien is a prestigious newspaper with a very important brand and political position in the press system of the Central Youth Union, the Central Vietnam Youth Union and the whole country's press system that not every newspaper has. In particular, Thanh Nien Newspaper dares to speak up, dares to commit, defends the right, fights against the wrong, the negative, the bad in society for the common good, is loved, trusted and loyal to the newspaper by readers, this is a very valuable asset to do its job well in the future.
Mr. Tran Thanh Lam believes that the responsibility of journalists and the team of resident reporters is to point out and discover problems to warn localities, units, organizations, etc. in a frank and constructive spirit, so that they have to reconsider and make adjustments. This is something that is very necessary. Thanh Nien needs to continue to be brave, to fight against negativity, to point out the limitations and weaknesses of society, of leadership and management work, etc. This is something that the newspaper has had the strength and experience for many years and needs to continue to promote. "The Party and State leaders always remind us that the press must promote balanced propaganda, not just praising everything is good. The press does not paint it rosy but also does not paint it black, these two concepts always go hand in hand and I hope Thanh Nien can do this," said Mr. Tran Thanh Lam.
According to Mr. Tran Thanh Lam, Thanh Nien is a large press agency with many representative offices, many resident reporters, and produces a large number of news and articles on many different publications and platforms, so it is impossible to avoid mistakes in terms of words and grammar... but in management work, mistakes and violations must not occur and the ethics of journalists must be maintained.
"We hope that Thanh Nien will continue to be a newspaper with ambition and vision. The aspiration here is to become a leading newspaper, with a large number of readers in the top group, and an agency that quickly and early transforms digitally. I understand that the Ministry of Information and Communications has just issued a policy that by the end of this year, it will announce the digital transformation index of press agencies, similar to the CPI (provincial competitiveness index). I think Thanh Nien Newspaper must strive to be in the top group right from the announcement, that is digital transformation, that is Thanh Nien ."
On this occasion, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department Tran Thanh Lam also requested Thanh Nien Newspaper to do a good job of protecting the Party's ideological foundation and fighting against erroneous and hostile views in cyberspace.
Pioneer in applying modern journalism technology
Sharing at the conference, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association Le Quoc Minh expressed his surprise that Thanh Nien Newspaper has a system of resident reporters spread across nearly 40 provinces and cities and said that this is the difference in building and developing the newspaper's content when it reflects very timely and vivid information about life and socio-economics across the country.
Mr. Minh mentioned the growth of Thanh Nien Newspaper in recent times, reflected in its content, form, journalism economy, and the personal reputation of journalists working at the newspaper, especially appreciating the application of technology in journalism.
The President of the Vietnam Journalists Association also emphasized that technological innovation brings many opportunities to the press but also poses many challenges. In the future, journalists will not only work with a notebook, a pen or a camera but also many other influencing factors. The press must grasp technology, in addition to creating good content, it needs to strongly apply digital transformation, and must proactively welcome readers on new platforms, not just simply follow to meet them.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Luong, Standing Secretary of the Central Youth Union, Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Union, said that the press is in the process of strong digital transformation. This context requires the press to find appropriate communication methods to help propaganda work not be dry and formulaic but lively, easy to access, easy to remember, easy to understand.
To do this, Thanh Nien Newspaper needs to take the lead in applying modern press technology; increase innovation, improve the quality of both content and form; create attraction and appeal to readers, especially young readers. At the same time, it is necessary to open special pages and columns, select topics that readers are interested in; organize key propaganda campaigns associated with prominent political events, promptly disseminate viewpoints, guiding thoughts, core content in policies and guidelines, etc.
" Thanh Nien Newspaper needs to regularly organize training programs to update knowledge for reporters on modern journalism methods, the application of information technology, and digital transformation in journalism; effectively promote the newspaper's information channels to spread information and promote the newspaper's image to a wide range of people," Mr. Luong suggested.
