Zeng Weaving Village in A Luoi

Zeng weaving is a unique handicraft production of the Ta Oi, Pa Co, and Van Kieu ethnic groups in the mountainous district of A Luoi, Thua Thien Hue province, and has become a national intangible cultural heritage.

Zeng weaving is a long-standing traditional craft of the Ta Oi ethnic group in the mountainous district of A Luoi. Products made from Zeng mats are indispensable offerings or costumes in community activities or important festivals of the people in the highlands of A Luoi.

Each Zeng woven product has multi-faceted value, both as an item, ensuring daily needs, and as a work of art, expressing unique characteristics in the cultural treasure of the Ta Oi ethnic group.

Over hundreds of years, the Zeng weaving craft has been preserved and passed down by local people; they search for materials themselves to weave colorful Zeng cloths with unique patterns.

To create a beautiful Zeng cloth, in addition to preparing the materials, including fabric, beads and bells, from the skillful hands of Ta Oi women, the gentle flexibility on the weaving frame and the ingenuity and meticulousness in beading have created unique patterns.

Zeng weaving is both a cultural activity and an economic activity of the people today. Zeng mats of the Ta Oi people have become products of high economic value, helping to improve the lives of the people today.

Currently, the Zeng weaving craft in A Luoi has been recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage, which will create more jobs for people in their spare time; at the same time, it can be exploited as a typical tourism product through tours and research routes to learn about the culture and history of the craft village... contributing to poverty reduction for ethnic minorities in A Luoi./.
