As Tet (Lunar New Year) approaches, gardeners and farmers in Ninh Phuc flower village ( Ninh Binh city) are busy preparing for the biggest flower season of the year. These farmers are always bustling and enthusiastic about their work to bring the most beautiful potted flowers to the market to meet the needs of flower enthusiasts during Tet.

The family of Mr. Vu Van Bang in Doai Thuong village is one of the largest flower growers in Ninh Phuc flower village. At this time, many types of flowers are blooming brilliantly in Mr. Bang's garden, attracting many customers who come to choose and buy flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year). Trucks carrying flowers for distribution to other localities are also bustling in and out. Mr. Bang said: "To meet the increased market demand during Tet, my family started planting various types of flowers from the beginning of September in the lunar calendar. This year, my family planted more than 10,000 flower plants of various kinds."

Meanwhile, at the flower garden of Mr. Dien Van Tam's family in Doai Thuong village, many customers are also choosing their favorite potted flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year). A flower farmer there said: Although it's not yet the peak Tet season, the garden has already sold many potted flowers to meet customer demand. The most popular flowers include marigolds, petunias, impatiens, and Korean chrysanthemums…

Despite the economic difficulties this year, the demand for flowers is not expected to decrease compared to last year. The prices of many types of flowers have also not increased significantly: Petunias in various colors range from 90,000 to 120,000 VND per pot, daisies from 25,000 to 30,000 VND per plant, chrysanthemums from 50,000 to 130,000 VND per pot depending on size, and peonies from 30,000 to 40,000 VND per pot…

Besides checking in and taking photos at the gardens, Ms. Bui Thi Phuong from Ninh Son ward, Ninh Binh city, also chose to buy marigold plants to grow in her small garden. "I like displaying marigolds because this type of flower is not only bright and vibrant but also symbolizes good luck and fortune," Ms. Phuong shared.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien from Yen Dong commune, Yen Mo district, said: "I came all the way to the garden hoping to admire the vibrant colors of the flowers and choose my favorite potted plants. I chose to buy lucky bamboo flowers to display during Tet and pray for a peaceful and prosperous new year."

Although this year's weather has been unfavorable, with intense heat, severe cold, and heavy rain significantly impacting flower growth, to meet market demand and improve crop quality, growers have proactively invested in and applied advanced science and technology to planting and care. This includes investing in greenhouses, polytunnels, lighting systems, and drip irrigation technology. As a result, pest and disease problems have been reduced, and damage from extreme weather has been minimized; in particular, the flowering time has been adjusted as desired.

Furthermore, gardeners have boldly innovated their thinking, converting less productive land to cultivate new, high-value, long-lasting, easy-to-grow flower varieties that are popular in the market. These include petunias, impatiens, Korean chrysanthemums, begonias, etc. With techniques and experience accumulated over many years, gardeners have carefully nurtured and pruned the plants to create beautiful shapes; the flowers are large, beautiful, and of high quality, generating hundreds of millions of dong in income each year.

Currently, many types of flowers have budded and bloomed, displaying their vibrant colors. Traders from within and outside the province have placed large orders, and many garden owners say they have already sold two-thirds of their flowers. The application of digital technology in sales is also an advantage, helping gardeners easily reach a large number of customers and facilitating sales. Instead of waiting until closer to the Lunar New Year, many customers have come to the gardens early to choose their favorite flower pots to decorate their homes.

According to Mr. Do Van Hung, Chairman of the Ninh Phuc Commune Farmers' Association: Although flower cultivation is quite arduous, it brings in income many times higher than rice and other crops. In the coming time, the Association will continue to encourage members and farmers to invest in and apply science and technology in planting and caring for flowers. At the same time, it will open more training courses on new techniques and new varieties for members and farmers to produce more beautiful flowers for the market. This will be an important solution for the Ninh Phuc flower village to develop further, bringing high and sustainable income to farmers.
