Due to the impact of storm No. 4, continuous rain in recent days along with a large amount of water from upstream caused hundreds of houses in Tan Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh to be flooded from 0.5-2m deep.
Heavy rain caused many mountainous areas in Quang Binh province to be deeply flooded.
Mr. Truong Thanh Duyen, Chairman of Tan Hoa Commune People's Committee, said that the commune is located in a basin surrounded by rocky mountains.
Over the past two days, heavy rain has caused water from upstream rivers and streams to flow down, deeply flooding hundreds of houses.
"Because the locality is located in a "basin" terrain, surrounded by rocky mountains, every time there is prolonged heavy rain, the whole area is deeply flooded.
The number of flooded households accounts for more than half of the commune. In Tan Hoa, most people adapt to climate change, so the flooded households all go to floating houses to avoid the flood. To ensure the safety of people and property, the locality has propagated in advance so that people can be proactive," said Mr. Duẩn.
"The world's best tourist village" Tan Hoa submerged in water.
According to Mr. Duẩn, when there were no floating houses, people had to flee the flood, and the government mobilized forces and means to evacuate people to safety. But now, when there is a flood, people just need to go to the floating houses.
In October 2023, Tan Hoa village, Tan Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh province was honored by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as "The best tourist village in the world", thanks to the natural beauty of mountains and forests and peaceful scenery.
Floating houses are an initiative that has been implemented for many years in Tan Hoa, helping people adapt to floods.
When the water rises, the house will automatically float up to the water level, ensuring the safety of people and property inside.
As the water rose, people evacuated their belongings and lived in floating houses. As the water rose, so did the floating houses.
Currently, the rainfall measured in communes of the two mountainous districts of Tuyen Hoa and Minh Hoa is over 400mm, reaching 633mm in some places.
Heavy rains caused water levels in rivers in Quang Binh to rise, with Gianh River above alert level 2.
Heavy rain also caused landslides and flooding in many areas in Quang Binh, causing local isolation.
At deeply flooded areas, authorities have placed signs prohibiting people and vehicles from passing through and arranged forces to block people from passing through areas with fast-flowing water.
