Clip: Welcome the sunrise, discover the beauty of the 600-year-old Con Go market in Ha Tinh.
Con Go Market has a 600-year history, located on the coast of Cam Nhuong commune, Cam Xuyen district (Ha Tinh), where fresh seafood is sold, serving locals and tourists.
Around 3am every day, ships and boats dock at Con Go fish market after their journey out to sea.
Locals and traders arrive early to wait for fishing boats to dock, quickly selecting the freshest seafood to buy. The atmosphere at Con Go market is bustling with buying and selling, laughter when fishermen "hit the jackpot" on their catch of fish, dispelling the quiet atmosphere at dawn.
Fisherman Tran Van Dong (Tan Hai village, Cam Nhuong commune) said: “Usually we go out to sea early in the afternoon of the previous day and arrive at the port around 3am the next morning. Fishing close to shore for a short time results in fresh seafood, sold at a high price, helping fishermen feel secure in participating in fishing, contributing to protecting the sovereignty of the homeland's sea and islands.”
Fresh seafood is gathered on basket boats, then brought ashore by fishermen.
The traders will negotiate the purchase and sale directly with the boat owner.
Squid prices at Con Go market range from 290,000 - 350,000 VND/kg; shrimp from 120,000 - 250,000 VND/kg; yellowfin tuna from 300,000 VND/kg; mackerel from 210,000 - 240,000 VND/kg; red fish from 70,000 - 80,000 VND/kg ...
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien (a trader at Con Go market) said: “I usually wake up early, go to the market at 3am to buy squid, grouper, mackerel... from the boat owner and then resell them to traders who come later or buy them at the restaurant. It is currently the tourist season so seafood is in high demand, many days it is “out of stock” and there is not enough to sell. After deducting all expenses, I still make a profit of 500,000 VND/day.”
