After 30 years of establishment and development, Nghia Dung Karate - Do Cam Lo Martial Arts School has established its position and reputation in the martial arts community of Quang Tri and the Central region. The school has always done a good job of teaching and training martial arts for many generations of students according to the national program, many of whom have become good martial arts masters and coaches, acting as the core to build and develop the Karate-Do movement. Thereby, contributing to spreading the quintessence of Karate-Do martial arts to make this martial art develop strongly, be loved and chosen by many people to practice.

Passion leads to success

The person who devoted a lot of effort and passion to building Nghia Dung Karate-Do Cam Lo to achieve the success it has today is 5th degree Black Belt Thai Tang Thien.

Mr. Thien recounted that although he loved martial arts since he was a child, it was not until 1988 that he had the opportunity to learn Karate-Do. The person who directly passed on the passion and taught him the first martial arts lessons was Mr. Nguyen Tuan.

At that time, Nguyen Tuan was a student at Hue University (now Hue University of Sciences) and was studying Karate-Do under the direct instruction of Mr. Nguyen Van Dung. Every time Tuan returned home in Cam Tuyen commune, Cam Lo district, Thien would come to meet and learn from him. Because Tuan was home for a very short time and did not return until a long time later, Thien always took advantage of every opportunity to ask him to practice and instruct him.

Thien's enthusiasm for learning and his spirit of not being afraid of hard work were highly appreciated, so Tuan devoted all his heart to teaching. His natural martial arts talent and his desire to reach a high level motivated Thien to practice martial arts well and learn new ones from Tuan. During the time when his teacher was not around, Thien still practiced seriously every day, every hour.

On October 6, 1989, Mr. Nguyen Tuan, as head coach, along with his colleagues: Phan Van Tri, Hoang Duc Duy, Le Hoai Nam, Nguyen Tuan Anh, organized the opening ceremony of the first Karate-Do class at Dong Ha High School with 25 students participating. Knowing that information, Mr. Thien was very happy because this was an opportunity for him to attend a formal martial arts class.

However, the biggest challenge for him at this time was that life was still facing many difficulties. Many times, in a thin shirt and with an empty stomach, he was still determined to cross the rising, turbulent and fierce Hieu River to get through town, then cycle to Dong Ha to practice; there was also a time, a relative gave him a bowl of instant noodles to give him the strength to travel the long distance to pursue his passion.

He said: “Even now, when I think back, I still cherish the days when there was not enough food to eat, not enough clothes to wear, and difficult transportation, I still persistently traveled from Cam Tuyen commune to Dong Ha to learn martial arts... Despite the difficulties, I always thought that passion will help people overcome all challenges and Karate-Do is the bridge to success. Because Karate-Do is a martial art that helps train health, will, determination, and cultivates necessary virtues such as discipline, confidence, modesty, calm demeanor, and composure in the face of all obstacles...”.

After many years of persistently pursuing martial arts, Mr. Thien achieved Huyen Dai De Nhat Dan in 1994. He began to realize his long-cherished dream of bringing Karate-Do to teach in his hometown to create favorable opportunities for people in his hometown to learn martial arts. At that time, organizing martial arts teaching in Cam Lo district encountered difficulties because there were many martial arts schools practicing in the area and some "gangsters" often came to challenge and harass.

With courage, sophistication and dexterity, Mr. Thien has handled every situation smoothly in the spirit of martial arts, in compliance with the law; at the same time, he focused on doing a good job of teaching; showing everyone the quintessence of KarateDo.

Clearly identifying that Karate-Do wants to develop sustainably, it must comply with the provisions of the law. After completing the procedures and with the support of Nghia Dung Karate-Do Quang Tri, in July 1994, Nghia Dung Karate-Do Cam Lo Martial Arts School was officially established, with Mr. Thai Tang Thien as the head of the school. This was a great joy for Mr. Thien when his efforts had paid off, and at the same time, it was a stepping stone for him to aim for higher goals...

Many impressive achievements

As the head of the martial arts school, Mr. Thien always sets a shining example of self-study and self-training to improve martial arts skills for martial arts students to follow.

In particular, he spent a lot of time at the Nghia Dung Karate-Do Ancestral Hall at 8 Truong Dinh, Hue City to directly study and practice to fully grasp the essence of Karate-Do martial arts. In 2014, he was awarded a 5th degree Black Belt certificate; currently holds the position of Vice President of the Quang Tri Province Karate Federation, Deputy Head of the Nghia Dung Karate-Do Quang Tri Branch, and Head of the Cam Lo District Karate-Do Association.

In the journey of developing Nghia Dung Karate-Do Cam Lo, Mr. Thien follows the educational philosophy of Nghia Dung Karate-Do, which is modern and liberal, "the martial arts school is a school" to help people perfect their personality and morality, become confident and mature. The martial arts school always values martial arts, guiding students to a calm and composed demeanor, an iron will, and compassion, fairness, and nobility.

To date, the school has 6 Karate-Do clubs with 350 students practicing regularly. Third-degree black belt Thai Lai said: “Since 1998, knowing the reputation of Nghia Dung Karate-Do Cam Lo School, I registered to study there. Being trained and coached in a professional environment, I have matured in all aspects, from level to ethics, have more courage in life, always uphold the spirit of chivalry to help the disadvantaged.

From 2007 to now, I have had the honor of working with Master Thai Tang Thien as a coach at the martial arts school, taking on the training work. Over the past 17 years, I have always done my professional work well, imparting everything I learned from Master Thien to the martial arts students, while always focusing on reminding them to preserve and promote traditions, building a beautiful image of the martial arts school in the eyes of friends across the country."

Nghia Dung Karate-Do Cam Lo focuses on training and educating athletes to have confidence and courage to participate in Karate competitions in and outside the province and achieve high results. Notably, from 2006 to present, the school has always ranked first and second in the province; the total number of medals won through competitions in and outside the province is 69 gold medals, 73 silver medals, 89 bronze medals.

Over the past 30 years, the school has trained 113 black belts, many of whom have been training since the beginning and have grown up in their martial arts and career development in their hometown and many provinces and cities nationwide, making many contributions to society. In addition, the school regularly organizes extracurricular activities to protect the environment, organizes well the reading movement and humanitarian and social charity activities...
