Over 30 years of establishment and development, Nghia Dung Karate-Do Cam Lo Martial Arts School has built a strong position and reputation in the martial arts community of Quang Tri and the Central region. The school consistently excels in teaching and training martial arts to many generations of students according to the national program, with many becoming skilled martial arts masters and coaches, forming the core of the Karate-Do movement. Through this, it has contributed to spreading the essence of Karate-Do, helping this martial art to develop strongly and become a popular choice for many practitioners.
Passion leads to success.
The person who has devoted so much heart and effort to building the Nghia Dung Karate-Do Cam Lo martial arts school to achieve the success it has today is the 5th Dan Black Belt, Thai Tang Thien.

Thiện recounted that although he had loved martial arts since childhood, it wasn't until 1988 that he had the opportunity to learn Karate-Do. The person who directly instilled in him the passion and taught him his first martial arts moves was Nguyễn Tuấn.
At that time, Nguyen Tuan was a student at Hue University (now Hue University of Science ) and was studying Karate-Do under the direct instruction of Mr. Nguyen Van Dung. Every time Tuan returned home to Cam Tuyen commune, Cam Lo district, Thien would come to meet him and learn from him. Because Tuan's time at home was very short and he would be away for a long time, Thien always took advantage of every opportunity to ask for training and guidance.
Thien's enthusiasm for learning and his unwavering dedication to training were highly appreciated, so Tuan devoted himself wholeheartedly to teaching him. His inherent martial arts talent and his burning desire to reach a high level motivated Thien to practice the techniques well and learn new ones from Tuan. Even without his teacher by his side, Thien continued to train diligently every day, every hour.
On October 6, 1989, Nguyen Tuan, as head coach, along with his colleagues Phan Van Tri, Hoang Duc Duy, Le Hoai Nam, and Nguyen Tuan Anh, organized the opening ceremony of the first Karate-Do class at Dong Ha High School with 25 students participating. Upon hearing this news, Thien was very happy because it was his chance to attend a formal martial arts class.
However, the biggest challenge for him at this time was the hardship of life. Many times, wearing only thin clothes and with an empty stomach, he was determined to cross the high, turbulent, and fierce waters of the Hieu River to get to the town, then cycle back to Dong Ha for training; on one occasion, a relative gave him a bowl of instant noodles to give him the strength to travel the long distance to pursue his passion.
He said, "Even now, looking back, I still cherish those days when we didn't have enough food to eat, enough clothes to wear, and transportation was difficult, yet I persevered in traveling from Cam Tuyen commune to Dong Ha to study martial arts... Despite the hardships, I always believed that passion would help people overcome all challenges, and Karate-Do is the bridge to success. Because Karate-Do is a martial art that helps train health, willpower, and determination, fostering essential qualities such as discipline, self-confidence, humility, and a calm and composed demeanor in the face of all obstacles..."
After many years of dedicated practice in martial arts, Thien achieved the First Dan (Black Grandmaster) rank in 1994. He then began to realize his long-held dream of bringing Karate-Do to his hometown to provide opportunities for people there to learn martial arts. At that time, organizing martial arts classes in Cam Lo district was difficult because there were many other martial arts schools practicing in the area, and some "gangsters" frequently came to challenge and harass people.
With his composure, finesse, and skill, Mr. Thien handled every situation smoothly in a spirit of sportsmanship, adhering to the law; at the same time, he focused on doing a good job of teaching, showing everyone the essence of Karate-Do.
Recognizing that sustainable Karate-Do development requires compliance with the law, after completing the necessary procedures and with the support of Nghia Dung Karate-Do Quang Tri, the Nghia Dung Karate-Do Cam Lo dojo was officially established in July 1994, with Mr. Thai Tang Thien as the dojo's head. This was a great joy for Mr. Thien, as his hard work had yielded results, and it also served as a stepping stone towards higher goals...
Many impressive achievements
As the head of the martial arts school, Mr. Thien always sets a shining example of self-study and self-training to improve martial arts skills for his students to follow.
In particular, he spent a lot of time at the Nghia Dung Karate-Do dojo at 8 Truong Dinh Street, Hue City, to directly study and train in order to fully grasp the essence of Karate-Do martial arts. In 2014, he was awarded a 5th Dan Black Belt; currently, he holds the position of Vice President of the Quang Tri Provincial Karate Federation, Vice Head of the Nghia Dung Karate-Do branch in Quang Tri, and Head of the Cam Lo District Karate-Do Association.

Regardless of his position, Mr. Thien has always dedicated his entire mind and commitment to the common good. In his journey to develop the Nghia Dung Karate-Do Cam Lo dojo, Mr. Thien has faithfully followed Nghia Dung Karate-Do's educational philosophy of modernity and liberation, believing that "the dojo is a school" that helps people perfect their character and morality, build confidence, and mature. The dojo always values martial arts, guiding students towards a calm and serene demeanor, unwavering will, and compassion, fairness, and nobility.
To date, the dojo has 6 Karate-Do clubs with 350 students training regularly. Third Dan Black Belt Thai Lai said: “Since 1998, knowing the reputation of Nghia Dung Karate-Do Cam Lo dojo, I registered to study there. Being trained in a professional environment, I have matured in all aspects, from skill to ethics, becoming more confident in life and always upholding the spirit of chivalry in helping the underprivileged.”
From 2007 to the present, I have had the honor of working alongside Master Thai Tang Thien as a coach at the martial arts school, undertaking training duties. For the past 17 years, I have consistently performed my professional duties well, passing on everything I have learned from Master Thien to the students, while always emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting the traditions and building a positive image of the martial arts school in the eyes of friends nationwide.”
The Nghia Dung Karate-Do Cam Lo dojo focuses on training and developing athletes with confidence and skill to achieve high results in Karate competitions both within and outside the province. Notably, from 2006 to the present, the dojo has consistently ranked first or second in the province; the total number of medals won in competitions within and outside the province is 69 gold medals, 73 silver medals, and 89 bronze medals.
Over the past 30 years, the martial arts school has trained 113 black belt holders. Among them, many instructors who have trained since the beginning have matured in their martial arts careers and developed their professions in their hometowns and many provinces and cities nationwide, making significant contributions to society. In addition, the school regularly organizes extracurricular activities to protect the environment, promotes reading, and engages in humanitarian and charitable activities.

The pride of that martial arts school lies in the fact that its masters and coaches are all exemplary role models in terms of character and morals, and its students are all good or excellent students in their academic studies.
The head of Nghia Dung Karate-Do Cam Lo martial arts school, Thai Tang Thien, proudly said: "The past 30 years have been a journey marked by countless efforts and determination from martial arts masters, coaches, and students to achieve the results we have today."
We will continue to strive towards higher and more meaningful goals to maintain and develop the "brand" of our dojo in training and coaching; improve skills through martial arts and martial philosophy refresher courses; enable our students to participate in Karate competitions inside and outside the province and achieve high results; and promote the Karate-Do movement throughout Cam Lo district...
At the same time, we will work together with martial arts schools in the Provincial Karate Federation to build an environment for exchange and learning skills not only in martial arts but also in other areas of society, making an important contribution to the development of the Karate-Do movement throughout the province.”
