By spreading the practical benefits of cashless payment activities to members, especially women in rural areas in recent times, the Women's Union at all levels in the province has contributed together with local authorities to further promote digital transformation in rural areas.

Having admitted that she is “tech-blind”, when hearing information such as digital transformation, digital technology..., Ms. Nguyen Thi Ly, in Cam Vu 1 village, Cam Thuy commune, Cam Lo district, was not very interested. A few years ago, her children bought her a smartphone but she mainly used it to watch YouTube, surf Facebook and chat with friends, and had never used applications such as smartbanking or MOMO.
Then, thanks to the propaganda and guidance from the Women's Union officials, Ms. Ly became familiar with the concept of "cashless payment for goods"; gradually becoming more proficient in using QR code scanning to pay. At the cashless rural market organized by the Women's Union of Cam Thuy commune, she arrived early, selected goods from other villages' stalls and continuously... scanned the code.
Sharing her feelings, Ms. Ly said: “Cashless payment is really convenient. Before, when going to the market, I had to carry a wallet and a bag, but now when going out, I only need a smartphone; scan the code, enter the amount to transfer and it’s done. The money my children send me, I just keep it in my account like that, so when I buy goods, I can pay quickly.”
Not only Ms. Ly but also many female members in the area, especially those who have long been used to buying goods with cash, also expressed their interest in the form of cashless payment at this special rural market.
Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Cam Thuy Commune, Le Thi Ha, said: For a long time, cashless payments in rural areas have not been popular. The main reason is that people are used to using cash to pay for purchases; most businesses also do not accept payments via e-wallets, so it is difficult to immediately accept these new electronic technology services.
“In the process of building a model new rural area, Cam Thuy commune has chosen digital transformation as a highlight. Therefore, together with the local government, the Commune Women's Union hopes to create a change in the awareness of its members about digital transformation, first of all, cashless payment for goods.
After the cashless rural market, many women have started to get used to this form of payment. The success of the market will be the motivation for the Commune Women's Union to implement more activities related to cashless consumption in particular and digital transformation in general," Ms. Ha affirmed.
In Vinh Linh district, grasping the reality that grocery stores, coffee shops, and markets in communes and towns are mostly concentrated with women, and this is a large group of people interested in promoting digital transformation, the District Women's Union has actively coordinated and promoted through many forms such as: direct propaganda, on social networks... so that many women can understand and apply.
Although she is just a small grocery store owner in the Central South countryside, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan still registered to create a QR code to make it convenient for customers to buy and pay for goods.
Ms. Lan said: “With the guidance of the association’s staff, I understand more about the benefits of cashless payments. Customers who come to buy goods when I suggest paying by bank transfer are happy to do it right away. It’s also very simple, just follow the instructions for about 5-7 minutes and you can pay immediately. Those who are used to it only take about 3 minutes to finish.”
The benefits are obvious, however, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Vinh Linh District Nguyen Thi Tuyet also said that it is not easy to propagate to people to change the form of cash payment that has existed for a long time. "Our biggest difficulty is to change the awareness of older members because they are too familiar with buying and selling goods with cash, and are not familiar with using technology.
The District Women's Union is actively coordinating with departments, branches and localities to promote propaganda in various forms to support and guide many women, especially small traders in rural areas, to become more familiar with non-cash payment methods," said Ms. Tuyet.
Discussing this issue, Chairwoman of the Provincial Women's Union Tran Thi Thanh Ha affirmed: "To adapt to the digital age, every citizen in general, women in particular, especially rural women, need to equip themselves with and update their knowledge of technology, especially knowledge supporting business and daily life; acquire new business methods to connect markets, consume products, help increase sales productivity, improve services, and develop business.
The Women's Union at all levels in the province has recently mobilized cadres, members and women to promote the use of electronic payment services and e-commerce transactions, moving towards cashless payments.
In the coming time, all levels of the association in the province will focus on synchronously implementing many solutions, in which it will focus on propaganda to raise awareness for members and women about digital transformation. At the same time, it will continue to guide and support members and women in conducting e-commerce transactions; using smartphones to access information in a modern way, and acquiring useful knowledge according to needs."
