Research from real life

Mental health has a profound impact on personal and social life, but many parents still take the unusual signs in adolescents lightly. This causes many families to not intervene early, but also increases academic pressure, aggravating mental disorders in students. This is also the reason why two 11th grade students of A Luoi High School, Ho Hoang Bao Tran and Nguyen Thanh Hoang, researched the topic "Awareness of mental health of high school students in Hue City".

The research team surveyed 4 high schools in Hue City from urban, rural and mountainous areas with 2,251 students. From the assessment of students' mental health awareness, the project proposed and implemented activities to raise awareness, provide knowledge, self-care skills and reduce prejudice, contributing to creating a healthy learning environment, supporting the development of mental health for students.

Activities including training, mental health day, “Colors of Happiness” day, using handbooks and supporting website hieudeyeuthuong.io.vn have brought positive effects in raising awareness among students. Awareness of psychological problems such as depression, anxiety, school stress has been significantly improved. At the same time, it reduces false stereotypes and enhances first aid skills, self-support as well as seeking help when needed. The topic not only contributes to changing awareness but also creates opportunities for students to connect, share and build an empathetic, non-discriminatory school environment.

Ho Hoang Bao Tran shared that the science and technology innovation movement is truly a playground for students to test new ideas and learn how to apply the knowledge they have learned into practice. When studying science and technology, I learn and gain more knowledge, improve my skills and learn methods to learn more about science.

Promoting innovation in teaching

To promote the movement of creativity and scientific and technological research among students, every year, the Department of Education and Training (DoET) organizes a science and technology competition for high school students to enhance the organization of experiential activities in the direction of developing students' capacity and qualities; deploying STEM education in implementing the new general education program. At the grassroots level, the Departments of Education and Training and high schools have organized large-scale competitions with many attractive competing topics, creating excitement and spreading vibrant research competition activities. In the 2024-2025 school year, through the competition round at the units, 98 topics from 66 schools and 3 vocational education - continuing education centers were selected to participate in the city-level competition; of which, 59 topics were awarded prizes.

According to Mr. Doan Minh Thang, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, the competition is a meeting place for creative ideas and passion for scientific research of students. This is a peak playground of intelligence and attraction, helping students form and develop scientific thinking, creative ideas, the ability to apply learned knowledge to explore, discover and solve practical problems. Through this competition, we highly appreciate the spirit of daring to think, daring to do to advance on the scientific path of students.

Many of the students' topics demonstrate novelty and creativity, demonstrating scientific, logical, and rigorous thinking, and efforts in researching and implementing issues of social concern. Some technical topics integrate advanced and intelligent technologies, demonstrating the connection between science - knowledge - technology and mathematics. This reflects the rich and practical creative potential in many fields of high school students that educators and scientists need to pay attention to and develop.

Teacher Doan Tran Bao Phuoc, Principal of Thuan An High School: Prioritizing scientific and technological research

Along with the attention to nurturing excellent students, scientific research is one of the two activities that the school prioritizes. Along with studying, scientific research is a useful professional activity, contributing greatly to teaching because both teachers and students have to explore, search for new knowledge, find solutions to apply to life, so the level, expertise, knowledge and skills are all improved.

For the past 10 years, the school has been very interested in developing the scientific and technological research movement and has received positive responses from staff, teachers and employees. Engaging in scientific and technological research is not simple because it takes time, effort and money. In the early years, the school assigned targets, attached to the competition targets of the groups. But when teachers have found joy in research, now the school does not need to assign targets but becomes the motivation of teachers. Any teacher who guides a prize-winning topic is given priority by the school in the competition ranking. For the past 10 years, every year the school participates in the city-level scientific and technological competition, it has won prizes. This year, the school has 2 topics in the competition and won 1 first prize and 1 second prize.

Students also participate very actively and passionately. After school, they go to the school's lab to do research, and even go to university labs. Research gives them an advantage when entering university, and gives them confidence in scientific research because they have mastered technology and methods since high school.

Teacher Pham Nguyen Trang Ngan, A Luoi High School: Science and Technology Innovation contributes to building a dynamic learning environment

Creative science and technology activities in schools play a very important role. They help students develop creative thinking, problem-solving skills, teamwork and a passion for research. For teachers, this is an opportunity to innovate teaching methods, strengthen connections with students and inspire creativity.

Teachers need to be inspirational, create an open learning environment, and encourage students to ask questions and experiment. At the same time, teachers need to accompany, guide, discover potential and inspire creative passion from things close to their lives. To participate in scientific and technological innovation, students need to have creative thinking, a desire to learn, problem-solving ability, perseverance and teamwork skills.

At A Luoi High School, the school creates conditions to organize competitions and research clubs, encouraging students to come up with ideas and turn them into practical products. Many creative topics of students have won awards at all levels, contributing to spreading the spirit of proactive and creative learning throughout the school.

I am Nguyen Thi Ai Nhi.

Nguyen Thi Ai Nhi, student of class 12A1, An Luong Dong High School: Equipping students with necessary skills for researchers

At the school where I am studying, every year, when the Science and Technology Competition is launched, the atmosphere in the school becomes extremely bustling. From the beginning of the school year, teachers and instructors have started to suggest ideas, orient research areas, and organize discussion and guidance sessions for students to gradually build their own topics.

Teachers enthusiastically support and closely monitor students throughout the project implementation process. In addition, reporting sessions and skills training such as survey design, presenting results or presenting to the council are also organized very systematically, helping students prepare thoroughly for the official competition round.

Throughout the process of implementing the topics, I also clearly developed social skills. These are presentation skills and interacting with the crowd; in-depth interview skills, helping me listen and understand the stories of each research participant; survey skills and organizing experiments.
