From 2023 to now, every full moon day and the first day of the lunar month, the Women's Association of Residential Area No. 15, Hoa An Ward (Cam Le District) has organized to cook and give free meals to low-income workers. This activity was initiated by Ms. Phan Thi Xuan An, the Association's Head, since the outbreak of Covid-19 and has been maintained until now. Ms. An said that in the past, she and some members cooked and gave away salty meals to the poor, lottery ticket sellers, scrap collectors, motorbike taxi drivers, etc. every Tuesday.
However, from 2023, the association will start cooking vegetarian meals and giving them to the poor on the above 2 days every month. Each time, the association will give 100-130 vegetarian meals, with drinks, worth about 20,000 VND/meal. The funding for the activity comes partly from Ms. An's own pocket, along with contributions from benefactors and members in the residential area.
“Many people find my work meaningful so they proactively contribute in many ways, from effort, money, and even collecting cans for me to sell to fund operations. The meals are cooked, packaged, and sent to those in difficult circumstances by the women themselves as a way to bring joy and motivation to help them overcome hardships,” Ms. An shared.
Although she does not regularly give free meals to poor workers like Ms. An, Ms. Vo Thi Hong Duc, Head of the Binh Phuoc 4 Women's Association, Thuan Phuoc Ward (Hai Chau District) has a different way to help those in difficult circumstances. Ms. Duc is the owner of a catering service, so every month, she takes a portion of her business profits, plus the funds mobilized from the association's donors, to give free meals to poor workers, give gifts to the families of members in difficult circumstances, poor students who overcome difficulties to study well, etc.
In particular, from her business, she also creates part-time jobs for 7-10 disadvantaged members in the residential area, earning an additional income of about 5-7 million/month. “As the head of the Women's Association, I always keep in mind that I must be a support for members, especially those with difficult family circumstances. Therefore, I regularly visit each house to inquire about the circumstances and needs of each member to have appropriate forms of support. My house is also a trusted address in the community, a place where women can take refuge when there is conflict or discord in the family,” Ms. Duc shared.
In the matter of creating jobs for local people, we cannot fail to mention Ms. Pham Thi Nhu Ngoc, a member of Women's Association No. 25, Hoa Xuan Ward (Cam Le District). Ms. Ngoc was born and raised in Cam Le, is a young entrepreneur, owner of 2 companies in healthcare and real estate, so she always looks towards her homeland and wishes to contribute to this land.
At one point, her staff did everything from office work to housekeeping and security, up to nearly 100 local people. In addition, she has been a typical member in social security activities in the ward for many years with many activities such as supporting the poor, children with financial difficulties, and medical treatment. At the same time, she deducted business profits to support zero-dong kitchens and charity meals. Although she has many meaningful activities, she always carries them out quietly.
Ms. An, Ms. Duc and Ms. Ngoc are 3 outstanding cadres and members among 10,000 members in the city who were honored in the emulation movement "Each member has a beautiful gesture, each organization has a meaningful action" in the past time. According to the City Women's Union, honoring 10,000 members who have implemented the emulation movement is a target in the emulation project to achieve achievements towards celebrating the 50th anniversary of the city's liberation, towards celebrating the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Women's Union and Vietnamese Women's Day.
These are exemplary members with beautiful actions and gestures, good impacts on social life and become role models for members to learn and follow, creating a strong spread in the community, contributing to building the image of a friendly, livable, and affectionate city.
