Handling damage and flooding on national highways through Dong Nai

Regarding the damage and flooding on the national highway through Dong Nai , Road Management Area IV has recorded and planned to handle and repair them in turn.

On October 30, the Department of Transport had a working session with the Road Management Office IV.2 (Road Management Area IV, Vietnam Road Administration, Ministry of Transport), the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, People's Committees of districts and cities and related units to urge the repair of national highways and provincial roads passing through Dong Nai.

Relevant units reported damage at some locations on national highways.

According to the Department of Transport, Dong Nai has four national highways with a total length of 233km. In addition, there are two expressways in operation with a total length of 93km and 24 provincial roads with a total length of 494km.

In recent times, continuous rain has caused many locations on the national highways through Dong Nai to be damaged and rutted. The most seriously affected is National Highway 51 through Bien Hoa City and Long Thanh District.

Faced with the above situation, in October, Road Management Area IV requested contractors to repair severely damaged areas and many sections. In addition, this unit is also working to handle black spots of traffic accidents from Km22 + 300 to Km23 + 900 on National Highway 51 (Long An Commune, Long Thanh District).

On Highway 1, Road Management Area IV and Dong Thuan Investment Joint Stock Company are repairing many damaged and degraded areas; installing a number of drainage systems through Trang Bom district. From now until the end of 2024, damaged areas will be repaired, road markings and traffic signal systems on Highway 1 will be painted.

A representative of the Bien Hoa City People's Committee said that recently the city has received many complaints from voters about the damage and congestion on National Highway 51. After receiving the complaints, the unit reported to the Department of Transport to continue to make recommendations for upgrading and repairing to ensure convenient travel for people.

Road Management Area IV handles black spots and installs median strips through Long Thanh.

According to a representative of Bien Hoa city, Highway 51 needs to be overhauled because it is severely damaged. The locality also requested to handle the severe flooding at the An Hoa brick kiln on Highway 51 and in front of Thong Nhat Hospital on Highway 1.

Long Thanh district leaders said that two seriously damaged spots have been repaired by Road Management Area IV. In addition, the installation of median strips has helped reduce accidents but has caused traffic jams and congestion.

In Cam My district, National Highway 56 has recently been repaired. However, there is still a section of about 800m from Km 7+200 to Km 8 that has not been invested in a drainage system, leading to flooding. Therefore, the district has requested Road Management Area IV to implement the upgrade soon.

Similarly, Long Khanh city proposed to study and handle the intersection of National Highway 1 and National Highway 56 because of frequent traffic jams, especially during holidays.

The Provincial Traffic Safety Committee also requested Road Management Area 4 to promptly handle damaged areas on Highway 51, repaint faded road markings... At the same time, add more no-stopping and parking signs... to damaged and tilted signs on the route.

Construction to handle problems on national highways takes place regularly.

A representative of Road Management Area IV said that in recent times, they have regularly inspected and recorded damaged and flooded areas on the national highway and have plans to upgrade and repair them in turn to ensure people's safe travel.

Mr. Nguyen Bon, Deputy Director of the Department of Transport, requested relevant agencies and units to focus on maintaining and repairing national highways, provincial roads, and district roads under their management. Units under the Department and Road Management Area IV should promptly study recommendations from localities, thereby proposing solutions to shortcomings related to traffic infrastructure.

The Department of Transport also said that in recent times, Road Management Area IV has been actively repairing National Highway 51 and other routes. On National Highway 51, at sections with border dividers, it is recommended to put up no parking signs, only stopping. Because in reality, vehicles parked to eat have taken up a lane, leading to congestion and traffic safety problems.

In the long term, it is recommended to raise and increase the culvert aperture, dredge the downstream area near An Hoa brick kiln through Bien Hoa. In addition, localities must propagate and mobilize people to collect waste properly; raise people's awareness, each person supports to help water drain quickly when it rains.
