First time organizing Friendship Cycling through Hoanh Mo (Vietnam) - Dong Trung (China) border gate

This is a practical activity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations and respond to the Vietnam-China Humanitarian Exchange Year 2025 and is an important event, concretizing the content of the Early Spring Meeting 2025 between the Secretaries of the Provincial Party Committees of Cao Bang, Lang Son, Ha Giang and Quang Ninh provinces (Vietnam) and the Secretary of the Party Committee of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China; at the same time implementing the Friendship Exchange agreement between the Binh Lieu District Party Committee (Vietnam) and the Fangcheng District Party Committee (China).

Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh province spoke at the event of the Cross-border Friendship Cycling Activity.

In his opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung - Director of the Department of Culture - Sports - Tourism of Quang Ninh province shared: The Vietnam - China solidarity and friendship was founded by President Ho Chi Minh and Chairman Mao Zedong and cultivated by generations of leaders of the two countries, becoming a valuable common asset of the two peoples.

The stable development and great, historical achievements of the Vietnam - China relationship in recent years, especially after the mutual visits of the leaders of the two countries' Parties and States, under the guidance of the spirit of 4 goods "good neighbors, good friends, good comrades, good partners" and the 16-word motto "friendly neighbors, comprehensive cooperation, long-term stability, looking towards the future" have brought to the people of the two countries in general, and our provinces and regions in particular, deep confidence in a new, stronger, deeper, more substantial stage of development of the Vietnam - China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

The Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh province emphasized: In the friendly cooperative relationship between the two provinces and regions, we always deeply understand that the locality is an important subject contributing to bringing the common perceptions of the high-ranking leaders of the two Parties and the two States into reality, and is a bridge to foster the friendship between Vietnam and China, between Quang Ninh province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, between Binh Lieu district and Fangcheng region to continue to be maintained, developed and raised to a new, stable and sustainable height.

The friendly cycling activity across the border contributes to strengthening solidarity, promoting people-to-people, cultural and sports exchanges between the two countries and localities; enhancing border tourism cooperation, promoting the image of Binh Lieu tourism, attracting more tourists after implementing entry and exit through Hoanh Mo border gate.

Through the event, Binh Lieu district and Phong Thanh area have the opportunity to promote economic and trade development, facilitate tourism clearance and trade, and help improve infrastructure and service quality at the border gate area. The event has important political, economic, cultural and tourism significance for the two localities and the Vietnam - China relationship in general.

Right after the opening ceremony, at exactly 9:50 a.m. at the Hoang Mo border gate (Vietnam) - Dong Trung (China) bridge pair, nearly 300 athletes (of which, China had nearly 200 athletes, Vietnam had nearly 100 athletes) cycled with a distance of 15km/1 round, on 2 stages including: the first leg from Hoang Mo border gate to Binh Lieu Palace Hotel, Binh Lieu district and the return leg from Binh Lieu Palace Hotel, Binh Lieu district to Hoang Mo border gate.

Over 30 motorcyclists lead the group and over 80 people are part of the logistics force, ensuring medical care, security and safety.

Mr. Duong Ba Hai, Vice President of the Quang Ninh Sports Motorcycle and Bicycle Federation, shared the work of organizing the delegation and ensuring security for the event. The measures include: dividing the delegation into five groups, with Vietnamese and Chinese forces alternating, along with the support of motorbikes to ensure safety on the road.

To prevent incidents, two logistics vehicles were arranged along the convoy, and functional forces were deployed at important intersections. Mr. Hai expressed his wish for the event to be a great success thanks to the cooperation of departments, contributing to promoting friendly relations and developing border tourism between Vietnam and China.

Many people joined in cheering for the athletes.

Mr. Pham Van Nhan - a 76-year-old athlete from Mao Khe Ward, Dong Trieu City, Quang Ninh Province, shared that he has participated in many open cycling races since 2017. This event not only improves health and sportsmanship but also strengthens solidarity between Vietnam and China. At the same time, he hopes that the tournaments will continue to promote friendship and sports movements among young people.

Mr. Nguyen Xin Phu, a Tay ethnic living in Binh Lieu district, shared that this event was crowded and bustling. He was very excited about the friendly atmosphere and hoped that solidarity and trade between the two countries would be enhanced after the border gate was reopened, bringing more job opportunities for the younger generation.
