DNVN - On September 19 in Da Nang City, the Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) officially launched the competition "Innovative startups in the field of energy efficiency".
The competition is part of the project “Promoting Innovative Start-ups in the Field of Energy Efficiency” (AIS4EE) under the Vietnam – EU Sustainable Energy Transition Program (SETP) funded by the European Union for the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The AIS4EE project is accompanied and implemented by GGGI - an intergovernmental organization that promotes green growth globally.

The competition aims to attract investment in innovative solutions for energy efficiency and conservation in the industrial, transport and construction sectors in Vietnam. The competition is designed specifically for two target groups and is implemented in parallel.
The first group is for startups from pre-seed stage to seed stage registered in Vietnam and foreign enterprises that have plans to operate in Vietnam, have a minimum viable product focusing on energy efficiency solutions for industry, construction and transportation.
The second group is specifically designed for students aged 15 to 25, who have ideas about energy efficiency solutions in industry, construction and transportation, suitable for the context in Vietnam.
It is expected that up to 30 best teams (including 15 startups and 15 groups of students) will be selected to participate in a 9-week training program, led by experts and consultants in the fields of startups and energy.
The total prize value of the competition is up to 35,000 USD for startup groups and 10,000 USD for student startup groups. In addition, the teams have the opportunity to participate in capital raising activities from domestic and international venture capital funds, including an investment of up to 1 million USD from Touchstone Partners and potential investments from partner investment funds.

According to Director of the Department of Energy Conservation and Sustainable Development (Ministry of Industry and Trade) Nguyen Thi Lam Giang, the National Program on Energy Conservation and Efficiency for the 2019-2030 period (VNEEP3 Program) aims to save energy from 5-7% of total national energy consumption for the 2019-2025 period and from 8-10% for the 2019-2030 period.
Through promoting investment and innovative startups in energy efficiency in the fields of industry, construction and transportation, the competition will contribute significantly to the implementation of the goals of the VNEEP3 Program as well as the goals of responding to global climate change that Vietnam has participated in.
