On the afternoon of July 24, at the National Assembly House, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man received Politburo member, Chairman of the National Assembly of the People's Government, President of the Council of State of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez, who led the Cuban delegation to attend the State funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that he will always maintain, continue and develop the legacy of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in relations with Cuba. The Party, State and National Assembly of Vietnam attach great importance to and are determined to further deepen the special traditional solidarity and friendship. Vietnam and Cuba always support the just revolutionary cause of the Cuban people; stand side by side with Cuba in the process of building and defending the Fatherland.
At the reception, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man sincerely thanked the Party, State and people of Cuba for sending National Assembly Chairman and President of the Council of State Esteban Lazo Hernandez and his comrades to attend the State funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, bringing to the Party, State and people of Vietnam close sentiments, deep sharing and encouragement at the present time.
The National Assembly Chairman expressed his emotion when he learned that the Cuban National Assembly, in its plenary session on July 19, 2024 (the day General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong passed away), observed a minute of silence and announced a national mourning period to officially commemorate General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong from 6:00 a.m. on July 20 to 12:00 a.m. on July 21, and that the national mourning ceremony took place all day on July 22.
According to the National Assembly Chairman: These are very sincere gestures, showing the friendship that only exists between comrades and brothers.
The National Assembly Chairman shared that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong always has special feelings for the country and Cuban people.

During his lifetime, the General Secretary always affirmed that the loyal and steadfast relationship between Vietnam and Cuba has always steadfastly overcome all challenges, constantly developing in both breadth and depth, contributing to the just cause of the two peoples.
Expressing his deepest condolences to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Esteban Lazo Hernandez sincerely sent the Party, State and people of Cuba the deepest condolences of the Party, State and people of Vietnam.
Emphasizing that the General Secretary's passing is an extremely great loss, President Esteban Lazo Hernandez stated that the General Secretary was a great thinker who had worked hard to cultivate friendship, solidarity, and sustainable cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba.
In particular, the General Secretary has visited Cuba five times, had many important meetings with Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and other senior Cuban leaders, and always made every effort to contribute to the development and further strengthening of the comprehensive cooperative relationship. The great contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in theoretical research on socialism applied in the specific circumstances of Vietnam are invaluable assets.
President Esteban Lazo Hernandez believes that the Party, State and people of Vietnam will continue to overcome all difficulties and achieve great achievements in the coming time; affirming that the Party, State and people of Cuba will continue to implement cooperation agreements to further strengthen Vietnam - Cuba relations.
Open up important collaborations
The two Presidents appreciated the good development in the relationship between the two countries' legislatures with high-level visits and all-level visits that have opened up important cooperation activities, bringing the relationship between the two countries' parliaments into depth and effectiveness.
President Esteban Lazo Hernandez hopes that the two countries' National Assemblies will continue to increase delegation exchanges and prepare well for the organization of the first Inter-Parliamentary Conference between the two countries' National Assemblies scheduled to be held in Havana in the near future, including the organization of a business forum between the two countries.

President Esteban Lazo Hernandez expressed his belief that with the results achieved, the two sides will successfully organize these activities, especially in the current context, where valuable lessons from Vietnam will be of great help to Cuba.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man stated: The Vietnamese National Assembly welcomes the proposal of the Cuban National Assembly on organizing the first Inter-Parliamentary Conference between the two National Assemblies; highly appreciates the relevant Committees and the Secretaries General of the two National Assemblies for actively and proactively coordinating closely to prepare for the successful, practical and effective organization of this important Conference.
The National Assembly leaders requested that the committees of the two National Assemblies, with the two Foreign Affairs Committees as focal points, continue to coordinate closely to successfully organize the Conference; and agreed that the two National Assemblies will continue to strengthen cooperation in the spirit of the signed Cooperation Protocol with new, deeper and broader cooperation contents and mechanisms.
Accordingly, the two sides will increase high-level and all-level contacts, committees, National Assembly deputies of the two countries, and two Parliamentary Friendship Groups to exchange professional experience in the fields of legislation, supervision and decision-making on important issues of the country.
The two sides continue to promote the role of the two countries' legislative bodies in promoting bilateral relations; supervise and promote ministries, branches, localities, and enterprises to actively and effectively implement signed treaties, agreements, and arrangements.

The two National Assemblies will increase information exchange and share experiences in effectively organizing the activities of the National Assembly, especially in building institutions, legal systems and supervising law enforcement.
The two sides continue to coordinate at multilateral international forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and other multilateral parliamentary organizations; support each other's stance on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Promote cooperation between the agencies of the National Assembly, the Office of the National Assembly of Vietnam and the Secretariat of the National Assembly of Cuba, especially in the fields of training and fostering of officials, exchanging experiences in research, general consulting and organization to serve the activities of the Parliament.
On this occasion, through President Esteban Lazo Hernandez, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man sent his warm regards to the leaders of the Cuban Party and State.
