Borrow money from bank to invest in livestock farm
Originally from Quang Ninh, after meeting his wife in Korea, Chung and his wife got married. In 2016, the couple returned to Vietnam and decided to develop the local economy.
Sharing with PV Dan Viet, Mr. Chung's wife said: Because she had experience raising chickens from abroad, when she returned home, with the money saved after nearly ten years of working, plus a bank loan, in 2017, she and her husband invested in building a chicken farm with a scale of more than 1,000m2 in Hoa Thuong commune, Dong Hy district, Thai Nguyen province.

By 2020, the couple continued to expand their scale, investing in a larger chicken coop with an area of 1,300m2. Initially, because they were not familiar with customers, finding an output market was quite difficult. But gradually, step by step, the couple approached the market, approached customers to introduce products and had a stable source of customers.
Currently, the total area of Mr. Chung's family's chicken farm is about 6,000 square meters, of which the barn area alone is about 2,500 square meters. If fully exploited, her family can raise 25,000 chickens.
According to Mr. Chung, white chickens require higher breeding techniques than other common chicken breeds, and must be cared for more meticulously because this type of chicken has lower resistance. In particular, the points that need special attention are temperature and drinking water. Normally, the appropriate temperature when the chickens first enter the house is about 34 - 35 degrees Celsius, then the temperature will gradually decrease as the chickens age. When the chickens are adults, the appropriate temperature is only about 19 - 20 degrees Celsius.
To suit the growing and developing conditions of chickens, Mr. Chung's family invested in a heating and cooling system for the farm to ensure coolness in the summer and warmth in the winter. With the current capacity, on average, Mr. Chung's family raises about 5-6 batches of chickens each year, with a duration of 60 days/batch. On average, each year, his family sells about 400 tons of chickens at the current price of 31,500 VND/kg.
After each batch is sold, the family will disinfect with lime and disinfectant before introducing a new batch of chickens to ensure disease prevention when re-herding. Because white chickens have poor resistance and are susceptible to diseases such as Ecoli, they must be fully vaccinated, especially in the winter when the weather is cold and susceptible to diseases, so they need to be paid closer attention.
Along with raising chickens, Chung and his wife also take advantage of excess chicken feed to raise fish. Currently, his family has about 5,000m2 of water surface area for raising fish, with an average output of 20 - 25 tons of fish per year including species such as tilapia, grass carp, common carp, etc.
Besides that, Chung's family still has about 5,000 square meters of water surface area for fish farming. Photo: Ha Thanh
With such fish output, Chung’s family still mainly sells to the open market. Chung’s family’s income from selling fish is about 200-300 million VND/year.
In addition, Mr. Chung also planted about 4,000 square meters of fruit trees such as bamboo-skin persimmons and lemons and cooperated with Thai Nguyen Green Tree Company to plant some ornamental trees such as pine, chay, star apple, areca... Of which, there are 1,200 pine trees, 1,000 areca trees, 500 star apple trees, and 500 chay trees.

To ensure the effective development of the garden - pond - barn model, in addition to the couple directly participating in production, Mr. Chung's family also hires 2 regular workers with a salary of 7.5 - 8 million VND/person/month and 4 - 5 seasonal workers with a daily wage of about 300,000 - 400,000 VND/person/day.
Billions of dong in profit from the comprehensive economic model
With the current integrated economic model of garden - pond - barn, on average each year Mr. Chung's family earns nearly 2 billion VND in profit.

Mr. Chung's plan in the near future is to expand the scale of livestock farming, invest in a separate farm in another area to limit the occurrence of epidemics. Given that practical need, Mr. Chung hopes to receive additional support from preferential loans to develop production, increase income and create more jobs for many local workers.

Evaluating the effectiveness of Chung's family's economic model, Mr. Lam Van Duc - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Hoa Thuong town said: Mr. Ha Duc Chung is a member of the Farmers' Association of Hoa Thuong commune. In 2017, his family invested in raising livestock on the farm. Since then, he and his wife have gradually expanded the area and scale of raising livestock in the area.
Up to this point, according to the assessment, Mr. Chung is one of the excellent production and business members at the Central level in 2023. It can be said that he is one of the farmer members with a stable economy in Hoa Thuong town.
"In the coming time, the Farmers' Association of Hoa Thuong town will pay attention to and support the procedures for granting VietGap certification in livestock farming on a farm scale for Mr. Chung's family," Mr. Duc added.
