The “2nd Peach Blossom Fair” opened on January 13 in Trieu Son district (Thanh Hoa province), not only contributing to the brilliant colors of spring, but also an opportunity to promote the image of the land, people, cultural beauty...
This is the second time that Mr. Nguyen Dai Dao - a garden owner in village 4 (Van Son commune, Trieu Son district) has been invited to participate in the peach blossom fair, as a long-time peach grower, producing quality products to serve the people's hobby of growing flowers during Tet. This year, Mr. Dao chose more than 10 peach trees that were considered the "best" in the garden to bring to "compete in shape". For him, this is not only a hobby of a long-time tree and flower grower, but also an opportunity to introduce and promote to friends and colleagues the unique products created by his own hands and the people in the area.
Mr. Dao said that village 4 (Van Son commune) is a semi-mountainous area, purely agricultural but the area of land for rice cultivation is very small and low-yielding, people have to work hard all year round but are still poor. Then the peach tree came to him and everyone in the village as a predestined relationship. Suitable for the soil and climate, the tree grows well without needing to be fertilized. After only two years, it began to produce brilliant flowers. At first, he only planted five or seven trees to get flowers to display on Tet and give to friends, but later many people came to buy them to enjoy in the spring... Then the peach gardens were formed and expanded.
Realizing that this was an opportunity to “change his life”, in 2012, Mr. Dao boldly converted the entire area of 1.5 hectares of mixed gardens and ineffective rice fields to peach cultivation. In addition, he also learned and applied science and technology to care, creating a new peach variety with more brilliant and durable flowers. “Currently, my whole family grows more than 700 peach trees each year. After deducting all costs for seeds and fertilizers, each peach crop also brings in an income of 300 - 400 million VND, many times more effective than growing rice, raising livestock and especially with very little risk,” said Mr. Dao.
Mr. Le Ba Thanh - Chairman of Van Son Commune People's Committee also said: Since 2010, Van Son Commune authorities have mobilized people to renovate mixed gardens and plant peach trees. The commune has planned 10 hectares of ineffective rice production land and mobilized people to convert to growing ornamental peach trees. Up to now, the whole commune has over 60 hectares of peach trees, with a value of 500-600 million VND/ha. "Thanks to peach trees, many households have been able to buy modern machinery for cultivation, build big houses, buy cars... It can be said that peach trees are becoming the main crop for Van Son people to develop the economy and get rich on their own land" - Mr. Thanh affirmed.
Talking to Dai Doan Ket Newspaper reporter, Mr. Le Van Tuan - Secretary of Trieu Son District Party Committee said that, with the potential and strength of developing ornamental flower areas, the district has established a project to support people to boldly convert hilly land and low-yield rice land to grow peach and ornamental plants. In addition, the district also has stimulus policies such as: Scientific support, technology transfer, funding, land accumulation, bank loans for people to boldly expand the area, as well as expand the form of service care, tree rental during and after Tet.
