Promoting local advantages
Golden Camellia is a medicinal plant with high economic value. This is the tree that helps many people in Ba Che district to escape poverty and become rich.
As the household with the largest area of yellow camellia cultivation in the region, Mr. Dam Van Cuong's family in Khe Long Ngoai village, Thanh Son commune has about 5,000 tea trees planted on 2.5 hectares of hilly land. He said that, realizing the great value of yellow camellia, his family boldly converted nearly 10 hectares of star anise, cinnamon, and cyperus rotundus to grow yellow camellia and other medicinal plants, with an annual revenue of about 500 - 700 million VND.
“In addition, the model of raising free-range chickens under the canopy of yellow camellia flowers is very effective. Because the trees provide shade for the chickens, the chickens pick grass, catch insects for the trees, and release fertilizer for the trees to grow better. From there, I not only save on the cost of hiring workers to weed, plow, and fertilize, but the trees also grow well, providing a stable income. Every year, I also raise about 1,000 chickens,” Mr. Cuong added.
The district has stepped up support for people to effectively change the structure of crops and livestock, apply science and technology to production, prioritize the development of large timber forests associated with medicinal plant cultivation... In particular, the district creates maximum favorable conditions for people to access preferential credit capital to invest in models such as: Growing large timber trees, raising commercial bamboo rats, and nurturing seedlings...
Mr. Trieu Van Dung, Vice Chairman of Ba Che District Farmers' Association
Not only Mr. Cuong's family, with the encouragement and support of the locality, many other households in Ba Che district have also invested in growing yellow tea flowers to increase their income. Currently, the whole Ba Che district has 300 hectares of medicinal plants, of which about 160 hectares are yellow tea flowers. In particular, many households have formed large-scale, chain-based yellow tea flower growing and processing areas, bringing high economic efficiency and increasingly stable income.
Promote the application of science and technology
In order to successfully build an economic development model, Mr. Hoang Van Hung, Tay ethnic group, Tan Tien village cooperative, Don Dac commune has successfully implemented a commercial chicken farming model with a quantity of 3,000 chickens. To implement the model, Mr. Hung's family boldly invested in accessing preferential capital sources from the district's Social Policy Bank, investing in building commercial chicken farms to serve the people in the commune and neighboring communes.
Sharing about his family's economic model, Mr. Hung said: "In 2018, my family started raising chickens. At first, it was very difficult, especially without capital, it took 7 or 8 difficult months. From the second crop onwards, we were supported with loans, supported to participate in training courses and proactively learn more experiences, so we succeeded. In particular, in recent years, raising medicinal chickens (chickens rarely get sick, their meat is delicious, fatty, and crispy, so they are very popular in the market) has brought economic efficiency."
According to Mr. Hung, every year, the revenue from raising commercial chickens has brought his family a total income of over 300 million VND. Currently, Mr. Hung's family's commercial chicken farming model is developing well, with a flock of 6,000 chickens and a total barn area of 2,500m².
Like Mr. Cuong and Mr. Hung, in Ba Che, there are more and more young farmer members who are good at production and business. Some examples include: Mr. Ninh Van Nam, Thanh Son commune, who develops the cultivation of Morinda officinalis, earning 300 million VND/year; Mr. Trieu Quay Phuc, Khe Long village, Thanh Son commune, who develops a nursery garden, earning 250 million VND/year; Mr. Trieu Tien Manh and Trieu Kim Vay, Don Dac commune, who raise bamboo rats, earning nearly 300 million VND/year...
Mr. Trieu Van Dung, Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Ba Che district, said: "In order to promote production development, increase income, and get rich on the homeland, the district has stepped up support for people to effectively change the structure of crops and livestock, apply science and technology to production, prioritize the development of large timber forests associated with medicinal plant cultivation... In particular, the district creates the most favorable conditions for people to access preferential credit capital to invest in models such as: Growing large timber trees, raising commercial bamboo rats, and nurturing seedlings...".
