Manual motorbikes are the favorite choice of many people who love to explore different roads. However, to conquer complex terrain smoothly and safely, the driver needs to master a few important techniques and notes.
Reduce tire pressure
On rocky or gravelly terrain, slightly reducing tire pressure will increase the contact area between the tire and the road. Softer tires will be more flexible, and will “hug” the road better, limiting the possibility of skidding when going through mud or boulders.
Reducing tire pressure helps increase traction and reduce wheel slippage. |
Depending on the terrain and tire type, you can reduce the pressure by about 0.3 - 0.5 kg/cm² (or psi) compared to the standard recommended by the manufacturer (this information is usually printed on the tire or in the vehicle owner's manual). However, do not reduce it too low if you still need to drive on asphalt because too soft tires can be easily damaged or difficult to control at high speeds.
Keep the rpm steady – don't rev hard
Many people make the mistake of accelerating hard to overcome difficult terrain. In fact, this action can easily cause the wheels to spin, lose traction and cause you to fall. Instead, keep the rpm steady, increase the throttle gradually and control the traction by coordinating the throttle and clutch smoothly. Maintaining a steady rpm not only helps the vehicle grip the road better, but also saves effort, avoids clutch wear and reduces the risk of stalling on the road.
Keeping the engine revs steady is extremely important when you need to climb steep slopes or drive on wet, slippery terrain. |
Pick the right number – low priority
A common mistake is to use a high gear because you are afraid of the engine being rough or noisy, but when going off-road, you should do the opposite. Gears like 1st and 2nd provide more torque, making it easier for the wheels to overcome obstacles, climb hills or wade through mud. Low gears also help control speed better when going downhill, avoiding the situation where the vehicle drifts freely or has to brake continuously. Especially with sharp turns, steep slopes or large rocks, low gears help you overcome them more safely and confidently.
Add additional accessories
Adding a few suitable accessories can make a significant difference to the off-road riding experience . For example, auxiliary lights are especially useful when traveling in low light, foggy conditions or at night in remote areas. Underbody protection helps protect important parts under the vehicle such as the engine block and exhaust pipe from impacts with rocks or obstacles on the road. Adding a rack or a cargo box increases the carrying capacity, suitable for long trips or when carrying a lot of luggage.
155cc VVA engine optimizes acceleration and stable operation on both roads and terrain. |
To have the best driving experience on every road, choosing a powerful, flexible and fully equipped manual motorbike model with safety features is extremely important. Yamaha Exciter in Vietnam is the name of manual motorbike that many bikers trust thanks to the combination of power, durability and modern technology.
ABS brakes enhance safety, prevent wheel slippage and wheel lock |
The Exciter manual clutch model uses a 155cc VVA, 4-valve, SOHC, liquid-cooled engine, combined with a 6-speed gearbox - providing smooth and stable acceleration on both flat and rough terrain. The frame is designed to be sturdy, balancing stiffness and flexibility. The rear suspension is a sporty single-axis shock absorber, and the front suspension has a long travel to help the vehicle be more stable when cornering or overcoming obstacles.
Not only powerful, Exciter is also equipped with ABS system and A&S clutch (Assist & Slipper Clutch) - supporting anti-lock braking when shifting gears suddenly and reducing rear wheel slippage, making the vehicle safer when moving on complex terrain. Exciter has a large 5.4L fuel tank, combined with a fuel-efficient engine, allowing it to travel up to 265km with just one fill - considered by bikers to be suitable for long trips and exploring terrain.
Yamalube engine oil is specially developed for each vehicle line. |
In terms of design, the Exciter carries the sporty DNA of Yamaha's R-series, with sharp, strong and youthful lines. The vehicle has 4 versions, 12 colors for you to freely choose according to your personal style and budget. In addition, there are a series of modern utilities such as smartkey, 12V phone charger, engine cut-off switch, and My Yamaha Motor application - providing maximum support for users in all situations.
To ensure a safe and smooth journey, vehicle maintenance before departure is also very important. You can buy oil yourself and change it at home, or bring your motorbike to a Yamaha dealer nationwide for support. Yamaha has developed new Yamalube oil specifically for each vehicle model. For example, with the Exciter, Yamaha recommends using Yamalube Sport oil specifically for sports vehicles, helping the vehicle achieve high performance, protect the engine, and reduce emissions.
