This afternoon, June 12, candidates taking the entrance exam for specialized Physics classes at specialized high schools and schools with specialized classes of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training took the Physics exam within 150 minutes.
Everything would be fine until you look at the scorecard for each question. Specifically, the test consists of 5 questions. According to the structure, question 1 is worth 1.5 points; question 2 is worth 2 points; question 3 is worth 2.5 points; question 4 is worth 2.5 points and question 5 is worth 1 point.
Thus, with this scoring structure, even if a candidate gets all the questions correct, he or she still cannot get 10 points, because the maximum total is only 9.5 points.
Sharing with VietNamNet, a teacher in Hanoi said he was also very surprised and had difficulty explaining when students texted him to ask.
“The students were a bit surprised, although this did not affect the test results. The students also understood that this was an oversight on the part of the test-making committee, but it is indeed quite rare. I hope the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has a reasonable solution so that all students can feel at peace,” said the teacher.
This story continues to be related to the issue of organizing the preparation of exam questions by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training this year, although it is not related to the quality of the questions.
Because after the end of the 2023 Hanoi non-specialized public 10th grade math exam, many parents and students also reported that the exam had a printing error in the question of solving a system of equations, causing students to misunderstand and make mistakes.
Specifically, in the Math exam, in point 1, question III, the question requires candidates to solve a system of equations.
However, in some exam papers, due to unclear printing, the dashes are broken and not continuous, causing many students to mistakenly think that there is a (-) sign in front. Accordingly, instead of 2/(x-3), many students mistakenly saw it as -2/(x-3), thereby giving the wrong answer.
Recently, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training had to meet to agree on a solution to the problem of some 10th grade math exam questions being printed blurry, causing candidates to misunderstand and get incorrect results.
Accordingly, the representative of the Department of Education and Training admitted that the exam questions had no errors in content, but during the printing process, some exam questions were blurred, broken, and not continuous at the fractional dash, causing students to misunderstand them as minus signs (-).
To ensure the rights of candidates, the Department of Education and Training has added an answer key with a (-) sign in front of it in case candidates make a mistake. Thus, candidates who misunderstand the question will still have their answer accepted if they solve it correctly.
Therefore, in this situation, during the marking process, the Department of Education and Training will recognize 2 answers for part 1 of question 3 about the system of equations.
The first answer is for candidates who take the test normally. The second answer is for candidates who consider the dashed line on the test paper as a minus sign. Thus, if a candidate answers correctly in either of these two cases, both will be counted.
