(NLDO) - Some parents of students at Vo Thi Sau High School (HCMC) received strange calls informing them that their children had been in a traffic accident and were being treated in the emergency room.

Reflecting to Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, some parents of 10th graders at Vo Thi Sau High School (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) said that this morning, November 18, they received many calls from strange phone numbers, claiming to be teachers, informing that students had a traffic accident and were in the hospital, needing money urgently for emergency surgery. This person even kept calling while the parents were sitting in the school's citizen reception room to report the incident.

"When I first heard it, I was shocked and quickly called my wife to see if she had received such a call. Her family said they had not received it and warned her to be careful not to be scammed. I also immediately called the homeroom teacher to ask and was told that my child was still studying in class as usual. Only then did I know for sure that the caller was a scammer," said an indignant parent.

Some parents of students at Vo Thi Sau High School (Binh Thanh District) received scam calls.

Confirming that the incident happened this morning, Mr. Huynh Van Hoai, Vice Principal of Vo Thi Sau High School, said that the homeroom teacher had reported it to the school board. The school immediately asked homeroom teachers of each grade to notify parents so that they could rest assured. The school also notified teachers, students and parents to be vigilant and avoid being scammed by bad guys.

According to Mr. Hoai, there were several cases where parents received such calls. Some parents immediately contacted the homeroom teacher, while others, because their homes were close by, went straight to the school to check the information.

Previously, in 2023, many scams targeting parents and students in Ho Chi Minh City also appeared continuously. Many parents said they received calls from strange numbers informing them that their children were in the emergency room at the hospital and asked to transfer money. Some gullible parents transferred tens of millions of dong after receiving the call. After that, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training issued an urgent notice, asking homeroom teachers to notify the school's hotline so that parents can contact them when they need to verify information, to avoid being scammed by scammers.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requires heads of units to review and inspect conditions to ensure the safety of information of students, pupils and teachers managed at the unit. Educational institutions must have measures to propagate and guide parents, pupils and teachers to be cautious in receiving information, proactively review information, and avoid cases of false information...
