According to the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station, the possibility of neutral conditions changing to La Nina in October has a probability of over 70% and La Nina will last until around mid-2025 with a fairly high probability.
Commenting on the weather in Ho Chi Minh City in the last months of the year, the Meteorological Station said that in the Southern region, the southwest monsoon is completely replaced by the northeast monsoon and there is a transition from the rainy season to the dry season.
The rainy season in 2024 is not likely to end much later than the average of many years, only about 5-10 days. In Ho Chi Minh City, the rainy season ends in most areas around early November.
“However, after the rainy season ends, there will still be widespread unseasonal rains lasting a few days in November-December and even early 2025,” the Meteorological Station noted.
In a more detailed forecast, the Meteorological Station said that during October, the southwest monsoon will gradually weaken and there will be a few northeast monsoons with a tendency to gradually strengthen until the end of the month. Temperatures will tend to gradually decrease.
It rains a lot in the first 20 days, the last days of the month the rain gradually decreases in both area and amount because during this period the northeast monsoon is stronger and diffuses more into the area.
November and December are the months when the northeast monsoon becomes stronger, the weather is dry but there is still a possibility of days with widespread unseasonal rain with common rainfall ranging from light to moderate. Cold air diffuses strongly to the south and there are periods of temperature drop with the lowest level below 20 degrees.
The meteorological station said that from now until the end of the year, there will likely be 1-3 storms or tropical depressions (TDPs) in the East Sea. The possibility of a storm directly affecting Ho Chi Minh City is not high, but the storm/TDP in the East Sea will cause widespread thunderstorms lasting for several days in the area. Beware of thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail, and gusts of wind with strong intensity.
October still has many rainy days
Detailed climate forecast for Ho Chi Minh City in October, the Southern Hydrometeorological Station said that in the first 10 days (from October 1 to 10), it will be mostly cloudy, with scattered rain and showers in many places; a few days with heavy rain in the early morning or late afternoon.
October 1-2: There will be showers and thunderstorms in some places, mainly in the late afternoon. Light southwest wind. Highest temperature 33-34 degrees; lowest 24-26 degrees.
From October 3-5: Cloudy, widespread rain with the possibility of rain in the early morning due to the impact of low-level easterly wind disturbances; Weak to moderate northeasterly winds. Temperatures will slightly decrease, highest 31-33 degrees; lowest 22-24 degrees.
From October 6-10: The low pressure trough gradually strengthens and affects the weather in the area, so the sky is cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. The highest temperature is 30-32 degrees; the lowest is 23-25 degrees.
Total rainfall during this period is approximately equal to or higher than the average, ranging from 80-140mm.
In the middle week (October 11-20), the general weather trend is that the low pressure trough is likely to become active again and has an axis passing through the Central region; beware of low pressure areas, tropical depressions or storms that may appear in the East Sea or move from the east of the Philippines into the East Sea. The southwest monsoon in the Southern region is of medium to strong intensity.
The weather in the area at this time is generally rainy, scattered showers in many places. Beware of the possibility of widespread rain with some places having moderate, heavy to very heavy rain lasting for a few days. Beware of thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and gusts of wind that may appear during thunderstorms.
This is also the period when total rainfall is generally higher than the average, from 90-160mm.
Last week (October 21-30): The area is mainly affected by the southern edge of the continental cold high pressure tongue and the northern edge of the low pressure trough; the wind changes direction to the northeast with weak to moderate intensity in the area. Beware of the possibility of storms or tropical depressions in the southern East Sea causing widespread rain in the area for a few days.
The weather in the area is generally rainy, scattered showers in many places. Beware of the possibility of a widespread rainstorm with some places having moderate to heavy rain. Total rainfall is higher than the average for the same period, commonly from 70-100mm.
The meteorological station warned that widespread rains with heavy rain lasting for days will cause difficulties for life, daily activities and agricultural and aquatic production.
Storms and tropical depressions in the East Sea cause big waves, strong winds and dangerous weather in sea areas. Ships operating at sea should take note.
Cold air begins to flow, the North is cool all week
