During his official visit to Malaysia, on November 22, General Secretary To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation visited and delivered a speech at the National University of Malaya (Malaysia).
According to VNA, speaking at the National University of Malaya, General Secretary To Lam shared his impression not only of Malaysia's achievements but also of the major directions and plans that the Malaysian government has set out and is implementing. These are groundbreaking long-term development strategies with a vision and great ambitions, aiming to place Malaysia among the world's top 30 economies within 10 years, and to make it one of the region's leading engines in innovation, high-tech products, and green development.
The General Secretary emphasized that Vietnam's development path cannot be separated from the world and the region. Vietnam cannot achieve the aforementioned goals without genuine international solidarity, valuable support, and effective cooperation from the international community, including Malaysia and ASEAN partners.
General Secretary To Lam expressed confidence that the newly established Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework will usher in a new era of development in bilateral relations, providing strong support and complementing the path of development for peace, stability, and prosperity of each country and the entire region.
General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the next stage of Vietnam and Malaysia's relationship, as well as ensuring a fair, open international system based on international law, largely depends on the robust development of ASEAN. The future of ASEAN, in turn, depends on the determination of each member state, including Malaysia and Vietnam.
Vietnam anticipates further advancements for the ASEAN Community and each member state in the new era, for the development of each country, and for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world. With Malaysia assuming the ASEAN chairmanship in 2025, Vietnam believes ASEAN will achieve significant progress towards a prosperous, united, and developed community. Vietnam is strongly committed to accompanying Malaysia and ASEAN on this journey.
General Secretary To Lam stated that, in order to realize that vision, the role of young intellectuals, researchers, and students is becoming more important than ever. Vietnam and Malaysia both share the view that people are at the center of development. Leaders of both countries across generations have always considered education and training, scientific research, and technology as the foundation of development. The National University of Malaya is a symbol of these efforts in Malaysia.
Vietnam considers education and training a national priority, investing in its development ahead of other sectors; and views human resource development as one of its three strategic breakthroughs. Looking broadly at the region, education and training are the driving force and foundation for ASEAN and each member country to thrive in a volatile world. Regional training and research centers, including the National University of Malaya, will contribute to shaping the future of the region, playing a crucial role in peace, stability, prosperity, and development not only in Southeast Asia.
On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam answered several questions from faculty and students of the university regarding Vietnam's foreign policy.
