Ho Van Minh (born in 2006), has 4 siblings in Rin Rin village - a village bordering Vietnam - Laos, in Truong Son commune, Quang Ninh district (Quang Binh).

Since he was young, to pursue education, Minh had to walk through forests and wade across streams to get to school.

Despite the hardship, Minh was very studious and always told himself to try his best to have a bright future. Many of his friends dropped out of school to help their families with farming or work for hire, but Minh was determined to pursue his studies, cherishing the dream of becoming a police officer when he grew up.

With his will and constant efforts, Minh always achieved high academic results and was the only student in Rin Rin village to attend secondary school at Quang Ninh District Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities.

His family was poor and had no means of transportation. Minh walked more than 15km from Rin Rin village to the main road to catch a bus to school. Because he had no money for the bus, Minh rarely went home. During the holidays, Minh often stayed at school to review his lessons and only went home during the summer and Lunar New Year holidays.

“Since secondary school, I have been advised by my teachers that with my circumstances, if I want to become a police officer, I need to make an effort to study at the Cultural School of the Ministry of Public Security, a cultural training school for ethnic minorities. Studying here, we are supported with food expenses and can apply to police schools,” Minh shared.

Minh said that the Cultural School, Ministry of Public Security (located in Thai Nguyen) has very few enrollment quotas, so in addition to political standards and moral qualities, students must have good academic performance and good conduct in their junior high school years.

With his efforts, Minh overcame difficulties and challenges, meeting the criteria to study high school at the School of Culture, Ministry of Public Security. Minh's luggage to Thai Nguyen that day only included a few old clothes, books, and the advice and worries of his parents, and the expectations of his village.

Not disappointing everyone's trust, during high school years, Minh always achieved high results, especially in literature, history, and geography.

The "sweet fruit" came when recently, I passed the entrance exam to the People's Police College 1 with high scores (9.50 points in geography, 9.75 points in history and 7.75 points in literature).

“When I heard that I passed the exam, I was very happy. After all my efforts, I got the results I dreamed of. I will try my best to study well. After graduating, I will apply for a job in the border areas, contributing my small efforts to the development of my village and homeland,” Minh confided.

Passing the police academy entrance exam, Ho Van Minh created a miracle by becoming the first Bru - Van Kieu student in Truong Son commune, Quang Ninh district to be admitted to this industry.

Minh's achievements not only demonstrate his tireless efforts, but also serve as a motivation to spread and encourage the spirit of generations of ethnic minority students to firmly step on the path to school.

“I am very proud that my child passed the exam to become a police officer. The villagers even came to congratulate him. Everyone is excited. I believe that in a training environment, he will mature and become a brave and dedicated police officer,” Minh’s father, Ho Van Truong, happily said.
