Gen Z Engineer Hoang Khac Hieu: Bringing Vietnamese technology to conquer the world

"Green Channel" - Urgent solution during the pandemic

In 2021, when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out strongly, the transportation of essential goods encountered many obstacles due to strict control measures. In the context of the widespread epidemic, many provinces and cities applied blockade measures, leading to congestion at checkpoints, seriously affecting the transportation of necessities and medical supplies. The urgent requirement is a system for managing and licensing means of transport quickly and effectively, minimizing direct contact and the risk of infection.

Tasked with developing the "Green Stream" system, Viettel Solutions' engineering team, led by engineer Hoang Khac Hieu, worked tirelessly to complete the project in the shortest time possible. In just two weeks, they built and deployed a completely new system, replacing the old system, meeting the urgent requirements of the epidemic situation.

The “Green Channel” system allows businesses and drivers to register online to be granted permission to pass through checkpoints quickly. Data is processed automatically, minimizing waiting time and direct contact, while helping authorities easily monitor and manage vehicle flows. Thanks to this, thousands of vehicles transporting essential goods have been able to circulate smoothly, contributing significantly to maintaining supply chains and stabilizing social life.

The success of the "Green Stream" project not only demonstrates the capacity and sense of responsibility of Viettel Solutions' engineering team, but also demonstrates the ability to apply information technology in solving urgent social problems. This is also an important step in promoting digital transformation in the field of transportation in Vietnam.

Bringing technology to solve the world's urban "pain"

Not stopping at solving domestic problems, Hoang Khac Hieu also aims to bring Vietnamese technology to the international market. He has presided over the development of a smart traffic monitoring and penalty system, integrating AI and 5G technology, meeting strict international standards, solving problems and "pains" of modern cities.

When demonstrating this solution at the Dubai Financial Center, he and his teammates received surprise and appreciation from international experts. “Experts and customers exclaimed: “I didn’t expect Vietnam to be able to make such an integrated AI and 5G product!” At that time, I was really proud of what the team had done,” Hieu recalled.

Hieu said that when other countries have mastered products and techniques, competing with them becomes extremely difficult. If we want to reach out to the world, only breakthrough products using high technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) can make a difference. Viettel's strength comes from research, especially in the field of AI. Hieu and his colleagues have worked closely with Viettel AI and Viettel Hightech to develop products that are suitable for current technology needs and trends.

This success has opened up great opportunities for Viettel Solutions in providing high-tech solutions to the international market, affirming the position of Vietnamese technology on the world map.

If you want to go far, don't be afraid of challenges.

Born in 1996 in Quang Binh, Hoang Khac Hieu showed his passion for information technology early on. After graduating from the IT class at Quang Binh High School for the Gifted, he continued to pursue Information Technology at Hanoi University of Science and Technology from 2015 to 2019.

Right after graduating, Hieu joined Viettel Solutions in 2019. Just one week after starting the job, he was assigned to join his first business trip, surveying customer needs and providing professional training to a group of nearly 40 employees. Recalling that time, Hieu shared that it was very stressful. But he always thought that this was also an opportunity to learn, so he was determined to do it to the end.

“Working in technology is a journey of continuous learning. I always believe that if you want to go far, you must not be afraid of challenges or collisions. The most important thing is to maintain a progressive spirit, dare to do, dare to innovate,” Hieu emphasized.

Hoang Khac Hieu is also a strong inspiration for innovation. He believes: "To be successful, students should invest in three factors: expertise, soft skills and attitude. Of which, attitude greatly determines the 'destiny' of your life."

Not only doing technology, he also cares about shaping the thinking of the young generation, creating products that are not only useful but also bring sustainable value to society.

For young people pursuing the information technology industry, Hoang Khac Hieu has a sincere advice. That is to build passion and a desire to constantly learn, because the technology industry changes very quickly. If you do not update your knowledge and skills, you will easily fall behind. When you fail, do not give up but remember the lessons from it to grow. Opportunities only come when you are ready to seize them.

He affirmed that in technology, there is no path paved with roses, but if there is perseverance and willingness to face challenges, young people will find opportunities and develop their abilities.

With a spirit of continuous learning and a desire to contribute, Hoang Khac Hieu has achieved many remarkable achievements. He was awarded the title of Emulation Fighter at Viettel Solutions for 4 consecutive years since 2021 and achieved the title of "Emulation Fighter of the Whole Army" in 2024.

At the Ceremony to honor the Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces of 2024, Hoang Khac Hieu was honored to be chosen to speak before the Prime Minister, he emphasized the responsibility of young people in the digital age.

Hoang Khac Hieu shared: “As a young person in the technology field, I am fully aware of my generation’s responsibility in the national digital transformation. Together with my team, I contribute to the development of smart traffic solutions. But more than the product, the important thing is the spirit of innovation, creativity and daring to take risks."

"Digital transformation is not only about technology, but also about changing mindset. Young people need to master technology, step out of their comfort zone, dare to try - fail - learn. Resolution 57 shows the Party and State's trust in the young generation. This is an opportunity for us to promote our capacity, desire to contribute and together create a strong Vietnam in the digital age," Hoang Khac Hieu expressed.
