According to the research team, the Mekong Delta currently has almost no machines for planting beans and corn on ridges or rice fields. Meanwhile, the area for growing crops is decreasing due to increasing costs of manual labor and shortages. The research team wants to create a new machine model to serve the conversion of crop structure in color production on rice fields in Hau Giang and the southwestern provinces. "The product aims to apply comprehensive 4.0 agricultural production," said Master Hoang.
To manufacture, the team utilized available components such as diesel engines, agricultural machinery gearboxes, and travel systems. For the rest, the team focused on designing the row tiller, sowing and filling parts, and lifting parts.
The machine has the function of simultaneously performing soil milling, rowing, sowing, and soil filling with flexible row spacing and seed types. The advantage is that the machine is quite compact, sowing many types of seeds, including soaked corn seeds.
Before sowing, the user determines the type of seed, row spacing, and density to select the appropriate sowing disc and adjust the row spacing and milling depth. When the machine is working, the blade system will mill the soil to create a furrow. The disc is responsible for making a groove in the middle of the furrow. The seeding disc receives movement from the sowing wheel through the transmission, causing the disc to rotate and the seeding holes from the auxiliary compartment to move to the seed release position. Here, there is a forced seed pressing mechanism to prevent seeds from getting stuck in the disc holes. The seeds will slide in the sowing tube and fall between the two row-cutting discs and be pulled by the lever to cover the seeds with soil.
The machine has a working width of 1.2 m, the number of sowing rows is from 2 to 4 rows with an adjustable distance of 300 - 800 mm, and a milling depth of 30 - 100 mm. The machine has a residual rate (holes without seeds) of less than 3%, and can adjust the number of seeds per hole and the hole distance according to the type of sowing disc. The productivity when sowing corn is 0.1 ha per hour (2 rows of sowing) and with soybeans is 0.2 ha per hour (4 rows of sowing). The machine can replace about 10 workers.
Regarding machine control skills, according to Master Hoang, users do not need to worry because the machine is simple to operate and easy to operate. Farmers who have used tillage machines will find it easy to operate after being instructed. However, users need basic mechanical training to ensure effective, technically correct and safe maintenance and operation. The multi-purpose seed sower is expected to cost about 80 million VND.
According to Master Hoang, the advantage of the machine is that it can sow many types of seeds, with varying density and distance, but this requires the user to spend time adjusting the combination of the milling blade, the row slitter, and the seed release door in a straight line. To reduce the machine's load, the group did not design a driver's seat for the operator. They have to walk behind the machine.
The machine has been tested in practice in Can Tho and Hau Giang. However, Mr. Hoang said that "it is necessary to deploy many cases to have an assessment in many other provinces".
Engineer Le Trung Hieu, Director of Ewater Technology Company, assessed that the group's product meets the needs of agricultural mechanization in the Southwest region, helping to increase productivity and free up labor. However, according to him, the machine's tire-driven mechanism can only operate on dry land. In wet, swampy areas, the machine is difficult to operate. Mr. Hieu suggested that the author change some mechanisms such as the cage wheel to be suitable for operation on wet land. In addition, the machine needs to be designed to be more compact for mobility and ease of transport.
