Celebrating the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Da Nang City Party Committee (March 28, 1930 - March 28, 2025) - Part 3: Da Nang

March 29, 1975 has gone down in Da Nang history as an immortal heroic epic, marking the great victory of our army and people in the General Offensive and Uprising to liberate the city after 21 years of resistance against the US, 30 years of liberation war and 117 years since the French fired the first shot on Son Tra peninsula, starting the war of aggression.

From that historical milestone, Da Nang truly dominated the city under the light of the new regime, becoming the pride not only of the local people but also of the whole nation.

The victory in the liberation of Da Nang did not come by chance. It was the result of the wise strategic guidelines and policies of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Central Military Commission, the sharp and timely direction of the Regional Party Committee and the Standing Committee of the Regional Party Committee V. In particular, the direct and creative leadership of the Special Zone Party Committee and the Standing Committee of the Quang Da Special Zone Party Committee.

And we cannot fail to mention the victories on the battlefields of the Central Highlands, Tri Thien - Hue and the provinces of Zone V. These resounding victories created a strategic position to overwhelm the enemy, facilitating the general offensive and uprising to liberate Da Nang.

Besides, the victory of the Tien Phuoc - Tam Ky campaign and the southern districts directly threatened the enemy in Da Nang, causing them to panic and disintegrate.

The close coordination between the armed forces, political struggle, military agitation and the masses in the districts of Duy Xuyen, Dai Loc, Dien Ban and Hoi An created favorable conditions for the uprising in the city, collapsing the puppet army and puppet government system, and regaining control of the city for the people.

That victory was thanks to the spirit of solidarity and determination to fight and win of the cadres, soldiers and people of Da Nang. As General Secretary Le Duan affirmed: "The attack and uprising to liberate Da Nang city had a decisive significance in the collapse of the puppet army in the South". This was a feat not only of the army but also of the people, a victory of will and aspiration for freedom.

After the country's reunification, from 1975 to 1996, under the wise leadership of the Quang Nam - Da Nang Provincial Party Committee, the Da Nang City Party Committee focused on overcoming the consequences of war, achieving many important achievements.

From a city with a low starting point, Da Nang has made efforts to expand urban space, promote socio-economic development, and become a model of overcoming difficulties. The spirit of daring to think and daring to do is demonstrated through reform policies, finding solutions to expand the transportation system, develop agricultural production, prevent plant diseases, build many important irrigation works, develop small-scale industry, improve offshore fishing capacity, and improve people's lives and incomes.

One of the highlights of this period was that Quang Nam - Da Nang took the lead in land reclamation, land clearing, and agricultural cooperative movements, along with the construction of the Phu Ninh irrigation project.

Since 1986, together with the whole country, the Party Committee and People of the city have actively implemented the renovation policy and achieved many achievements in many fields, quickly becoming a bright spot in the mechanical industry and consumer industry.

January 1, 1997 marked a historic turning point when Da Nang became an administrative unit directly under the Central Government. Since then, the city has undergone a strong and impressive development process, affirming its position as one of the important economic, cultural and tourist centers of the country.

The city has not only made its mark with impressive achievements in infrastructure and industrial development, but has also made outstanding progress in many other fields, creating a new look for Da Nang - dynamic, modern and increasingly deeply integrated with the international community.

With strategic vision, generations of city leaders have made bold decisions, especially focusing on investing in infrastructure development, expanding urban space and attracting investment resources to promote sustainable development.

One of the important factors that helps Da Nang develop strongly is the completion and modernization of the transport infrastructure system. Over the past two decades, the city has put into use many large-scale, modern projects such as: Han River Bridge, Dragon Bridge, Thuan Phuoc Bridge, Hai Van Tunnel, Hue Intersection.

The city’s economy has made strong strides, becoming one of the localities with the highest growth rate in the country. Da Nang has strongly promoted its advantages in geographical location, traffic connection and infrastructure to attract large investment projects in the industries, services and tourism.

In addition, urban development projects are being vigorously implemented, especially the expansion of urban space and the construction of new modern urban areas, creating a comfortable living and working environment for people. High-class residential areas, industrial parks, and commercial and service areas are being systematically invested in, and thousands of inner-city roads connecting urban areas are being opened.

Key economic sectors such as tourism, services, trade, finance, information technology, construction and transportation are increasingly focused on and strongly developed. In particular, Da Nang tourism has been firmly affirming its position, becoming one of the leading destinations not only in Vietnam but also on the international tourism map.

In the development journey of Da Nang, it is impossible not to mention the humane and unique programs of the city such as the programs "5 no's", "3 yes's", "4 safe city" which are widely agreed and supported by the people.

In particular, the "City of 5 Nos" program is not just a slogan, but a drastic action to solve urgent problems in society. Efforts to reduce social evils, eliminate illiteracy, eliminate temporary housing, bring shelter to many families, help them stabilize their lives and develop sustainably have helped the city build a cohesive, cultured and humane community.

Through these programs, Da Nang has proven that, besides economic achievements, sustainable development is only truly strong when built on the foundation of caring, sharing and taking care of the lives of the city's people.

Looking back on the journey since the establishment of the Party Committee, we have the right to be proud of a Da Nang that is “brave and resilient” in combat; creative and innovative in construction. From a small provincial capital, it has risen to become one of the most strongly developed and dynamic cities in Vietnam.

Under the wise leadership and strategic vision of the Party and generations of leaders, Da Nang has overcome many challenges, gradually building and asserting itself in all aspects. We believe that, with sustainable development strategies as well as the determination of generations of leaders, Da Nang will certainly continue to grow and affirm its position in the future.
