Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the Founding of the Vietnam People's Army in Cambodia

On the evening of December 12, in the capital Phnom Penh, the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese Defense Attaché Office in Cambodia solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024).

According to a VNA correspondent in Phnom Penh, the event was attended by General Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Cambodia, General Tea Banh - Direct Supreme Advisor to King Norodom Sihamoni, Vice President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP); along with more than 700 invited delegates representing units under the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense, Defense Attaches of countries belonging to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), former Cambodian military students who studied in Vietnam and Vietnamese military students studying in Cambodia. Vietnamese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang chaired the event.

At the ceremony, Colonel Tran Van Tam, Head of the Vietnam Defense Attaché Office in Cambodia, gave an overview of the formation and development process of the Vietnam People's Army, as well as bilateral military-defense cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia in recent times, affirming that today's event is a very important moment and a great honor for the Vietnam Defense Attaché Office in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

According to Colonel Tran Van Tam, 80 years ago, on December 22, 1944, following the directive of President Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army, the predecessor of today's Vietnam People's Army, was established.

Over 80 years of building, fighting and growing, the Vietnam People's Army has continuously grown and developed, always demonstrating the mettle of a revolutionary army, born from the people, fighting for the people, worthy of being a special political force, an absolutely loyal and trustworthy fighting force of the Party, State and People of Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang said that at this time, the entire Party, the entire Army and the entire Vietnamese people are wholeheartedly turning towards the Fatherland and the Vietnam People's Army.

Domestically, from the central to local levels, from ministries, departments, branches to units in the entire Army, we are striving to compete to achieve achievements to celebrate the great historical day of the nation.

The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense is ready for the 2nd International Defense Exhibition, to send the message of “Peace-Cooperation-Development,” to introduce the cultural traditions imbued with Vietnamese national identity, to promote the image, position and prestige of Vietnam in the international arena; to affirm the bravery, indomitable will and strength of the heroic Vietnam People's Army.

Abroad, Vietnamese embassies, diplomatic missions, and Vietnamese Defense Attaché offices in other countries have been organizing a series of propaganda activities and meetings to review the glorious tradition and introduce the image of Vietnam's National Defense to international friends.

In Cambodia, under the direction of the Vietnamese Embassy, ​​the Vietnamese Defense Attaché Office has implemented a series of meaningful activities, including: Meeting, visiting, and presenting gifts to veteran cadres; Launching a contest to learn about the Vietnam People's Army and the National Defense; Visiting the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument; Organizing sports exchanges with the Cambodian Ministry of Defense, organizing exchange activities between Vietnamese military students and international students in Cambodia...

In particular, the second meeting of former students of the Royal Cambodian Army studying in Vietnam, along with a solemn reception to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day.

Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang emphasized that Vietnam and Cambodia are two neighboring countries with a long-standing relationship of solidarity, friendship and close ties, standing side by side to overcome countless difficulties and hardships to gain independence, and together build, protect and develop the country. That relationship was built with the wisdom, sweat and blood of generations of leaders, of heroic martyrs and the outstanding children of the two nations.

The history of building and defending the country of the two nations is always linked and inseparable; a typical example is the close relationship between the Vietnam People's Army and the Royal Cambodian Army.

Affirming that both in the past and present, the defense relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia has always been a pillar and a solid foundation promoting other close relationships, the Vietnamese Ambassador stated: “In particular, the victory on January 7, 1979, overthrowing the Pol Pot genocidal regime, helping Cambodia revive and develop beautifully as it is today, is a strong testament to the noble defense relationship between the two countries.

Throughout its history of development, the Vietnam People's Army has assisted the Royal Cambodian Army in terms of human resources and material resources, and helped train tens of thousands of cadres, most of whom have grown up and become the core leaders and core cadres in the Royal Cambodian Army. Among them, there are generals and soldiers who are honored to represent here today."

On this occasion, on behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang expressed his sincere gratitude to generations of leaders, the Cambodian people and the Royal Cambodian Army, and all international friends who have given valuable support and cooperation to the people and the Vietnam People's Army in the past struggle for national independence, as well as in the current cause of national construction and protection.

For his part, General Phat Vibolsopheak, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Policy and Foreign Affairs, Director of the Department of International Relations of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense, expressed his deep gratitude to the Government, Army and People of Vietnam for always supporting and providing budget and equipment to the Royal Cambodian Army to strengthen infrastructure, train and coach officers, and provide free medical care and examination for officers of the Royal Cambodian Army.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, on behalf of the Ministry of National Defense, the General Command, officers, non-commissioned officers, and soldiers of the Royal Cambodian Army, General Phat Vibolsophea sent his sincere and best wishes to the leaders of the Vietnam Ministry of National Defense, officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers, and all Vietnamese people to successfully complete all assigned tasks.

According to General Phat Vibolsophea, in the spirit of increasingly deep cooperation, the two countries have met regularly through annual meetings and meetings at all levels between the armies of our two countries.

In addition, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense also granted many scholarships to soldiers of the Royal Cambodian Army to study in Vietnam, especially former Cambodian military students present on this occasion who had studied in Vietnam and returned to serve in their units.

Highly appreciating the close cooperation between the Royal Cambodian Army and the Vietnam People's Army, General Phat Vibolsophea stated, "In the context of many fluctuations in the world situation, our two countries, Cambodia and Vietnam, still maintain a good relationship.

The solidarity, friendship, cooperation and good brotherhood between the two countries' armies will be further strengthened and developed.”./.
