50th Anniversary of Duc Trong District Liberation Day (April 2, 1975 - April 2, 2025): From heroic land to dynamic socio-economic center

(LĐ online) - 50 years have passed since Duc Trong district was officially liberated on April 2, 1975. From a wild land, experiencing many historical ups and downs, Duc Trong has grown strongly, becoming one of the dynamic economic, cultural and social centers of Lam Dong province.

• HEROIC HISTORY IMPRESSION

During the resistance war against the US, Duc Trong was an important strategic area. The Party Committee and the people of the district promoted the revolutionary movement, built and developed forces, contributing to the overall victory of the whole country.

In particular, during the general offensive and uprising in the spring of Mau Than 1968, the army and people of Duc Trong district successfully completed the task of building and expanding the base area, creating conditions for the armed forces to gather and launch attacks on Da Lat city; at the same time, organizing coordinated battles in the district, creating conditions for the forces of the province and the Zone 6 Party Committee to win in the spring of Mau Than.

Especially during the summer operation in 1968, the army and people of the district successfully completed the task of luring the enemy out of the city to destroy the enemy and consolidate the movement in the inner city of Da Lat, together with the army and people of Lam Dong province and the whole country, delivering fatal blows, continuously defeating all plots and tricks of the enemy, smashing the puppet army and puppet government apparatus.

To win the revolutionary struggle, Duc Trong District Party Committee has gradually built and prepared forces from small to large, from weak to strong; from economic struggle to political struggle, from political struggle to armed struggle; skillfully combining armed struggle with politics and military agitation, from building disputed areas to strong disputes and gaining mastery, from building political depressions, partial liberation to complete liberation.

By the morning of April 2, 1975, Battalions 186 and 840 of Military Region 6 crossed the Da Nhim River to liberate Phu Hoi and Tung Nghia communes. On the night of April 2, 1975, all enemy troops in Duc Trong district disintegrated, Duc Trong district was completely liberated, the District Military Management Committee was established, and the government returned to the people.

After nearly 21 years of resistance war against the US to save the country, with countless hardships and sacrifices but extremely glorious and heroic, the Party Committee, army and people in the district, with the support of Military Region 6, organized a coordinated force to liberate Duc Trong district, opening wide the gateway to liberate Da Lat town and Tuyen Duc province (April 3, 1975), contributing to opening up attack routes to the Northeast of Saigon city, the final decisive battle, ending the victory of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, liberating the South, unifying the country in the Great Spring Victory of 1975.

After the liberation day, the Party Committee and the people of all ethnic groups in Duc Trong district had absolute confidence in the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, promoted the heroic tradition, overcame all difficulties and challenges, actively built a revolutionary government, fought to eliminate reactionary organizations, especially disintegrating the reactionary organization Fulro, maintained national defense and security, and restored and developed the economy.

In recognition of these achievements, the cadres and people of Duc Trong district were honored to receive many noble awards from the State: the 3rd class Labor Medal in 2020; Hiep Thanh commune (now Hiep Thanh commune and Hiep An commune) was recognized as a Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces and Phu Hoi Cooperative was recognized as a Heroic Unit of Labor. In addition, in the area, there are 3 Heroes of the People's Armed Forces and 19 mothers were awarded the title of Heroic Vietnamese Mother.

• PROUD STEPS TO MOVE

Looking back over the past 50 years, Duc Trong has made proud changes. The economy has grown rapidly, the economic structure has shifted towards industrialization and modernization. Agriculture is still the strength of the district, but there have been clear changes in quality, productivity and added value. Many high-tech agricultural production models have been applied, bringing high economic efficiency to the people.

Industry and services have also made great strides. Service and tourism industries have also developed strongly, meeting the increasing demands of people and tourists.

The infrastructure system of transportation, electricity, roads, schools, and stations is invested synchronously and modernly. National Highway 20, the main route connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Da Lat, passes through the district, creating favorable conditions for trade and economic development.

Lien Nghia town, the district center, is increasingly spacious and modern with many new architectural works, meeting the living and working needs of the people.

The material and spiritual life of Duc Trong people has been significantly improved. The poverty rate has decreased sharply, and the average income per capita has increased. The healthcare and education systems have been invested in and upgraded to meet the health care and learning needs of the people. Cultural and sports activities have taken place vigorously, contributing to improving the spiritual life of the community.

By the end of 2024, 7/14 communes will meet advanced new rural standards, 117/139 typical residential areas, 56/117 model residential areas. Per capita income is higher than the average of the whole province. Multidimensional poverty households decreased by 172/1,433 households, equivalent to a decrease of 0.35%, while ethnic minorities decreased by 111/908 households, equivalent to a decrease of 0.69%.

The district has 56/63 public schools meeting national standards, reaching 88.9%; 12/15 communes and towns meeting the national criteria for health; there are 5.3 doctors/10,000 people, an average of 13.2 hospital beds/10,000 people. The rate of children under 5 years old suffering from stunting is 16.99% and malnutrition is 9.95%.

The entire district Party Committee has 58 grassroots party organizations (18 Party Committees and 40 Party cells, 266 Party cells directly under the grassroots Party Committee) with 4,983 party members. National defense - security, social order and safety are ensured, politics is stable. The political system is increasingly consolidated, the role of the Front and mass organizations is promoted. The leadership capacity and fighting strength of grassroots party organizations and party members are increasingly improved, basically meeting the requirements of building and developing the district in the new situation.

In addition to its achievements, Duc Trong is also facing many challenges. However, with its existing potential and advantages, Duc Trong is also facing many new development opportunities. The 50th anniversary of liberation is an opportunity for Duc Trong to look back on the past, evaluate its achievements and draw valuable lessons. With the spirit of solidarity and creativity, the Party Committee, government and people of Duc Trong district are determined to build their homeland to become increasingly rich, beautiful, civilized and modern.
