Signing of agreement to implement the Integrated Water Resources Management Project

(BD) - On the morning of March 27, in Quy Nhon City, the Provincial People's Committee held a working session and signed an Agreement on the implementation of the Integrated Water Resources Management Project - Phase 1 - Kon River Basin, Binh Dinh Province with the Rhin Meuse River Basin Water Management Agency of France. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang and Mr. Xavier Morvan, General Director of the Rhin Meuse River Basin Water Management Agency, co-chaired the meeting.

The Integrated Water Resources Management Project - Phase 1 - Kon River Basin will be implemented in 5 localities including Vinh Thanh, Tay Son, Tuy Phuoc, An Nhon Town and Quy Nhon City; the total cost is more than 480 thousand Euros, the implementation period is until 2026. The project consists of 5 components: general coordination agreement, management and operation, research on the current status of water resources, building an information system on water resources, and improving water resources management capacity.

The project has four objectives, including: General coordination with projects being implemented in the area; improving management and operation related to the field of water resources; managing information on water resources; conducting research to determine the characteristics of water resources in the Kon River basin and improving management capacity for local officials through specialized training.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed solutions to implement the project towards the goal of sustainable water resources management.

Mr. Xavier Morvan highly appreciated Binh Dinh province in implementing strategic policies, accepting to test new creative and exemplary models of integrated water resources management in general and the Kon River basin in particular.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang emphasized: The agreement to implement the Integrated Water Resources Management Project - Phase 1 - Kon River Basin is of great significance, marking a new step forward in the cooperative relationship between the two sides; aiming at the goal of sustainable management and use of water resources, bringing benefits to people in the project area. After completion, the project will form an overall picture, fully assessing the current status of water management for the Kon River Basin. From there, appropriate and effective management and response solutions will be proposed, contributing to improving the capacity of directing, operating and managing water resources of agencies, units and localities in the province.

To successfully implement the project, relevant departments, branches and localities must take drastic, proactive action and closely coordinate in implementing and completing the contents and components according to the plan. The Rhin Meuse River Basin Water Management Agency and the consulting unit need to actively coordinate and support Binh Dinh province in the implementation process to improve the quality and effectiveness of the signed cooperation contents.
