The rare monitor lizard handed over by Hue residents has been released to Bach Ma National Park.

Previously, this monitor lizard was received by Hue City Forest Protection Department from Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hieu in Thuy Van Ward (Hue City) who voluntarily surrendered it with the wish to release it back into the natural environment.

The clouded monitor lizard is a rare, endangered wild animal listed in the Vietnam Red Book and needs to be strictly preserved and protected according to the provisions of law.

Since the beginning of the year, the provincial forestry sector has received, cared for and released dozens of rare and endangered wild animals into the natural environment.

The clouded monitor lizard (Varanus nebulosus) is a rare wild animal belonging to group IB according to Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP dated September 22, 2021 of the Government on amending and supplementing a number of articles of Decree 06/2019/ND-CP dated January 22, 2019 on the management of endangered, precious and rare forest plants and animals and the implementation of the International Convention on Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. This is a rare animal species that is protected by law and is strictly prohibited from exploitation, use, purchase, sale and consumption in any form.
