Recorded on the afternoon of November 12, on Phan Van Tri Street (Go Vap), Hanoi Highway (Thu Duc City), Pham Van Dong (Go Vap)... many places dumped oranges on sidewalks, carts and sold them for 6,000-10,000 VND/kg depending on the type, many places even sold 5kg bags for only 25,000-30,000 VND/kg.
Selling more than 200kg each day at a retail price of 8,000 VND/kg and 30,000 VND/5kg bag, Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh (Thu Duc City) said that these oranges are taken from gardens in Vinh Long, the price is cheap so the quantity sold is high.
"The import price is gradually increasing, but it is currently only half of what it was in previous months. The low price has been supported by many people, and last week several tons of oranges were sold."
At this time, the price of oranges in many markets is also quite cheap, supermarkets are also enthusiastically increasing deep promotions to support the consumption of oranges from the West.
Specifically, many Facebook pages such as "Vinh Long oranges...", "Wholesale fruit market..." also enthusiastically posted sales of oranges with retail prices from 7,000-12,000 VND/kg depending on the type, customers buy 20kg baskets for 5,000-7,000 VND/kg.
Meanwhile, on November 12, at Thu Duc agricultural wholesale market (Thu Duc city), a large amount of oranges were displayed by traders along the front of the fruit area and sold at quite cheap prices, commonly only 4,000-6,000 VND/kg depending on the type, some types were even only 3,000 VND - equivalent to a glass of iced tea.

A trader here said that most of the oranges at the market are imported from the Southwest region, mostly from Vinh Long, Ben Tre, and Dong Thap.
"The quantity is large but the consumption is slow, so the price of oranges drops quickly, only half of the good price during the hot season. If it is 3,000 VND/kg, it is only equal to the price of a glass of iced tea."
Meanwhile, Bach Hoa Xanh said the retail price of oranges at points of sale in the West is currently from 7,000-10,000 VND/kg depending on the location; in the remaining provinces, the price is 14,000 VND/kg, buying from 2kg costs 12,500 VND/kg, buying from 5kg costs 10,000 VND/kg. This price has decreased sharply compared to previous months. In October, the unit consumed 800 tons, and in November, it is expected to consume 700-750 tons of oranges.
Similarly, many supermarkets such as MM Mega Market, Co.opmart, GO! BigC... are also applying promotions for oranges with common prices ranging from 8,000-15,000 VND/kg depending on the type to support consumption for gardeners.
Many sellers said that due to the reduced supply, the price of oranges purchased from gardens in the West is gradually increasing compared to the end of October. However, this price is still quite low compared to previous months.

The reason for the recent fall in orange prices is believed to be because oranges are in season, but because they are almost only consumed domestically in the form of fresh fruit for juice, they are easily encountering difficulties.
"This year's weather is colder than previous years, with a lot of storms in the Central and Northern regions, so demand from markets like Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces has decreased significantly compared to other months, supply exceeds demand, causing prices to fall," explained Mr. Vinh, a gardener in Vinh Long province.
Many experts believe that the massive planting of new oranges at a time when prices are high has led to the supply of oranges in many places easily exceeding demand.
In addition, it is necessary to calculate the connection of businesses with large growing areas to increase deep processing such as making food, jam, bottled juice... to support consumption for farmers during peak harvest time.
