DTO - Like many ethnic groups in the world, Vietnamese people in general and Vietnamese people in Dong Thap in particular have the virtue of diligence and it is one of the most outstanding characteristics. Folklore says that "hardworking" and "hard-working" not only praise female workers but also all "men" and in all fields. Even in their childhood, Dong Thap people have to go through "one sun and two dews" and gradually get used to the hard work of farming. And even in the "gray matter" era, diligence is still the top quality of workers.

Hard-working is understood as the ability to try and always make an effort, patience and dedication to achieve a goal. This virtue is demonstrated through the frequency and responsibility when doing a certain job, whether it is small things in daily life or building a great career. Synonyms for hard-working are diligence, industriousness. The opposite of hard-working is laziness, laziness. The most specific manifestation of laziness is boredom, not trying or not wanting to do anything. Laziness is the biggest enemy of success. It is easy to see that not all hard-working people become rich, but most hard-working people have a stable life. Lu Xun, a great Chinese writer, said: "On the road to success, there are no footprints of laziness". Recently, some opinions have discussed a paradox that "laziness will easily lead to success". In fact, this is a misunderstanding between laziness and the desire to reduce work or create more results in a short time. To finish the work as soon as possible, people have to "rack their brains" to find "a thousand ways and means". That is a kind of labor, not "waiting for the fruit to fall into their mouths".
Most of Dong Thap people come from farmers, so they are attached to or close to farming. Farming and fishing used to be the main source of livelihood for the majority of families. And in this situation of "working with one hand to eat, the other hand to feed the mouth", people are forced to work hard to have a better life. Moreover, coming from a backward agricultural background, having to "sell your face to the land, sell your back to the sky" has tempered the endurance and flexibility of farmers. In addition, the weather is always "unpredictable", diseases on crops and livestock... make farmers have to find ways to cope. Many objective and subjective factors of finding a living on agricultural land have formed hard-working people. Besides, living in wartime conditions, patriotic farmers are aware that working is also a duty for the resistance to win. And when the country was at peace, people joined hands to heal the wounds of war, rebuild their homeland and take better care of their families. The foundation of hard work was given wings “Labor is glorious” because labor is not only for oneself but also for the community and society. Along with diligence in their work, all classes enthusiastically participated in “Communist Labor Days”. That spirit was nurtured and shone during the period when the country carried out the “Renovation” process. Once again, all classes of people “marched together” on the front line of building and defending the Fatherland. Students overcame difficulties, studied diligently; workers actively started businesses, created many products with the Dong Thap brand; civil servants and public employees were conscientious with their organization’s tasks; soldiers of the armed forces were dedicated to keeping peace for their homeland… Thanks to the minds and hard-working hands of Dong Thap people, many families were prosperous, villages were prosperous, and their homeland “changed its skin and flesh”.
In the bright picture of Dong Thap about hard work, there are still a few people like "worms". Both in perception and action, they just want to "sit back and enjoy a golden bowl", afraid of working, afraid of hardship. In many fields, we encounter the attitude of "passing the buck", working in a "perfunctory, general" way, carelessly... Some individuals are lazy, do not want to change their lives or just want to "change their lives" quickly by praying for luck, even doing illegal things. Folklore has pointed out the root cause of bad habits from "Idleness is the devil's workshop". Here, the family, school and community have the main responsibility in creating a healthy competitive working environment: "Work a lot, get a lot, work a little, get little, do not work, do not get any" and it is the foundation of love for work. Lessons and experiences from the practical life of each person, community and country all point out the contrast between diligence and laziness. Even in an era of highly developed science and technology, diligence is still the leading factor in labor and the foundation of innovation and creativity. The knowledge economy requires highly specialized labor with precise operations.
From the living environment and education, Dong Thap people are "trained" to be diligent. With diligence, the people of the land of pink lotus have gradually controlled the "flood", conquered the wild land and built a "base" to serve the diverse life of people here. This "good land" has become and is becoming a "worth living place". It is also diligence that will be the foundation and luggage for the young generation of Dong Thap people to enter a new era to establish themselves, build a rich and civilized homeland, on par with modern regions of countries around the world.
