Kon Tum: Government policy credit is the fulcrum for poverty reduction in the Tu Mo Rong highlands

In mid-April 2025, I visited A Le's household in Kon Hia 3 village, Dak Ro Ong commune. He happily shared that when he got married in 2018, the young couple lived in a damp, dilapidated, cramped old house. In 2023, the district's Social Policy Bank (SBP) lent the family 40 million VND. He added more and asked villagers to help build a house of over 60 square meters. With a stable place to live, the couple felt secure in their work, and their economy was much better than before.

And the young man A Doi in Te Xang commune excitedly told about his family's journey to escape poverty and get rich: " My family was able to borrow 100 million VND from the district's Social Policy Bank for young people to start a business. After listening to the staff's instructions on growing Ngoc Linh ginseng, at first there were only a few dozen roots, but now there are about 30,000 roots " . His family currently has about 300 5-year-old ginseng plants. According to him, on average, each year, the family's income is about 2 billion VND from selling ginseng seedlings, ginseng seeds...

Ms. Y Lich, Dak Xieng village, happily shared that before, her family of 6 had to live in a wooden house with an area of ​​over 30 square meters. When she was able to borrow 40 million VND, her family sold cassava for an additional 60 million VND to build a solid house, 60% larger. She used her old house as a kitchen, and still lives in the new house. With a new house, the family is very excited, the children have a proper place to study. By the end of 2024, the family will be off the list of poor households.

Mr. Truong Quang Tri, Director of the Transaction Office of the Social Policy Bank of Tu Mo Rong District, hundreds of households in the district have escaped poverty and become rich from humane capital. The highlight after nearly 10 years of implementing Directive No. 40-CT/TW, dated November 22, 2014 of the Secretariat "On strengthening the leadership of the Party over social policy credit" in Tu Mo Rong is the consensus and positive response of the entire political system.

Policy credit capital has had a positive effect, becoming an important "support", a pillar for sustainable poverty reduction, accompanying hardworking farmers with the will to rise up and have capital to develop the economy, gradually escape poverty and get rich in the Tu Mo Rong highlands.

The outstanding mark in policy credit activities in Tu Mo Rong is the fairly good growth in outstanding loans. Total outstanding loans to date have reached over 430 billion VND. The effective implementation of policy credit sources has contributed to the implementation of the National Target Program on sustainable poverty reduction, job creation, and new rural construction in the extremely difficult district (30a) with over 95% of the population being Xo Dang ethnic people.

The activities of the Social Policy Bank in Tu Mo Rong district have always received attention and support from the Party Committee and the government, contributing to the excellent completion of credit plan targets and annual political tasks. Policy capital has reached the right beneficiaries, and loans have been used for the right purposes. Therefore, over the years, the district has always had the lowest overdue debt rate and high credit quality. The unit has built a team of cadres who meet the requirements of the task, have professional ethics and a civilized and polite communication style, are always close to the people, dedicated to performing their tasks with the motto "Understanding the people's hearts, serving wholeheartedly".

Mr. Vo Trung Manh, Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tu Mo Rong district, said that the district determined that sustainable poverty reduction for people in the revolutionary base area is a central and continuous task set by the Party Committee, government and political system, considering it a responsibility to show gratitude for their contributions, and at the same time, help the heroic land of Tu Mo Rong gradually escape poverty and become rich in its own homeland.

According to Mr. Truong Quang Tri, Director of the Transaction Office of the Social Policy Bank of Tu Mo Rong District, in the coming time, the unit will continue to synchronously implement solutions to enhance disbursement, promptly meet the demand for loans for production, business, job creation, contributing to improving and enhancing the material and spiritual life of poor households and policy beneficiaries; improve the quality of credit activities, ensure loans are given to the right subjects, borrowers use capital for the right purpose and effectively.
