Timely implementation of land policy for ethnic minorities

Kon Tum province has 43 ethnic groups living together, of which ethnic minorities account for more than 54%. Most ethnic minorities have their livelihoods closely linked to agricultural and forestry production activities. Therefore, land is a particularly important means of production for ethnic minorities.

Clearly identifying the importance of implementing land policies for ethnic minorities, based on the data of the 2019 Socio-Economic Survey of 53 Ethnic Minorities and the results of annual statistics and reviews, in recent times, all levels and sectors in Kon Tum province have focused on directing and promoting the implementation of programs and solutions to support residential land and production land for ethnic minorities.

Mr. Le Thanh Dung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Po Ko Commune, Dak To District, said: The commune has 05 villages, nearly 3,900 people, with 10 ethnic groups living. Recently, the People's Committee of the commune also closely coordinated with agencies and units to implement the survey, collect information on the socio-economic situation of 53 ethnic minorities in 2024 according to the set roadmap and plan.

For local authorities, it is also hoped that through the survey data, central and provincial agencies will have orientations and solutions for socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas and especially timely resolve land policies for ethnic minorities.

According to preliminary statistics, there are currently nearly 3,900 ethnic minority households in Kon Tum province lacking and having no residential land or production land. However, due to the characteristics of ethnic minority residents mainly residing in remote areas; every year, due to the impact of natural disasters, many areas of residential land and production land are eroded and leveled; along with that, many young families separate households and establish gardens, so the demand for residential land and production land is quite large.

Therefore, in the coming time, Kon Tum province will continue to promote the implementation of programs and projects to support residential land and production land for ethnic minorities with the goal that by 2025, 100% of ethnic minority households will have residential land and production land.
