On the afternoon of March 4, Head of the Management Board of Huong Tich Pagoda Tourist Area (Can Loc District, Ha Tinh Province) Tran Thi Thu Ha said that the unit had just coordinated with the District Police to promptly detect and prevent a group of people with signs of superstition against regulations at Huong Tich Pagoda.
According to initial information, at around 10:00 a.m. on March 3, a group of about 15-20 tourists from Nghe An province (in the group there was a woman wearing a red ceremonial dress, a red head scarf and a male attendant) went to Huong Tich pagoda (in Thien Loc commune, Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province) to make a pilgrimage and perform a prayer ceremony.
A group of people came to perform a ceremony at the Tam The temple area of Huong Tich pagoda. The pagoda still respects beliefs and allows the ceremony to be performed as usual according to regulations.
During the ceremony, the woman wearing a red ceremonial dress continuously knelt and crawled around on the mat, showing signs of superstitious activities, entering a trance, possessing the "tiger god" and speaking loudly.
Next, many people around stood, sat, knelt, clasped their hands in prayer and showed behaviors that went against the beliefs and regulations of Huong Tich Pagoda.
Upon discovering the incident, the Management Board of Huong Tich Pagoda Tourist Area coordinated with the security and order task force of Can Loc District Police to quickly come to remind, prevent and request the group of people to stop performing the above-mentioned illegal acts. At the same time, they invited some related people to the office of Huong Tich Pagoda to make a record of the incident.
According to Head of the Huong Tich Pagoda Tourism Management Board Tran Thi Thu Ha, because this was the first violation of this group, the authorities only handled it by reminding, warning, propagating, explaining so that everyone understood and required a commitment not to repeat similar activities in the Huong Tich Pagoda area.
Immediately afterwards, this group of people left Huong Tich Pagoda.
Huong Tich Pagoda was built around the 13th century in Huong Tich Cave (in the Hong Linh mountain range), at an altitude of nearly 1,000m above sea level. The story of the pagoda is associated with the folk legend of Princess Dieu Thien who attained enlightenment, became a Buddha, and saved all living beings.
Huong Tich Pagoda is known as “Hoan Chau’s most famous landscape”. Every spring, visitors from all over the country flock to the festival to pray for national peace and prosperity, favorable weather, family peace, happiness, prosperity and to admire the sacred beauty of the pagoda.
On June 8, 1990, Huong Tich Pagoda was ranked as a national historical and cultural relic - scenic spot by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).
