According to the latest statistics of the General Department of Customs, in the first half of December (December 1-15, 2023), Vietnam's total import turnover reached 15.48 billion USD, an increase of 6.1% (equivalent to an increase of 893 million USD) compared to the results in the second half of November 2023.
Of which, import of goods in the first period of December 2023 increased compared to the second period of November 2023, mainly in some commodity groups such as: Computers, electronic products and components increased by 135 million USD (equivalent to an increase of 3.2%); machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts increased by 62 million USD (equivalent to an increase of 3.3%).
Thus, from the beginning of the year to December 15, 2023, the country's total import turnover reached 312.35 billion USD, down 9.8% (equivalent to a decrease of 34.06 billion USD) compared to the same period in 2022.
Import turnover of phones and components reached 8.4 billion USD |
Notably, the import turnover of phones and components decreased by approximately 12 billion USD (equivalent to a decrease of 58.8%). As of December 15, the import turnover of this group of goods only reached 8.4 billion USD.
Thus, phones and components alone account for 35.1% of the country's import turnover decline.
The main import market for this group of goods is China with 6.7 billion USD (updated to the end of November), accounting for 83.6% of the country's import turnover of phones and components during the same period.
Computers, electronic products and components alone accounted for 26.93% of the country's import turnover during the same period. At the same time, this is also the group of import and export goods with the largest turnover in the country.
Compared to the same period in 2022, import turnover of computers, electronic products and components increased by 5.44% (equivalent to an additional turnover of 4.34 billion USD).
Regarding the import market, South Korea leads with 25.94 billion USD (updated by the General Department of Customs as of November 2023), up 21% over the same period in 2022 and accounting for 32% of the country's import turnover of computers, electronic products and components.
Although the Chinese market decreased by 5.8% compared to the same period in 2022, it still reached 21.17 billion USD.
